Deron Williams to Philadelphia

Post#1 » by rein08 » Tue Sep 16, 2014 12:32 am

Brooklyn trades: Deron Williams + cash considerations
Philadelphia trades: Jason Richardson, Arnett Moultrie, Elliot Williams, Henry Sims

Brooklyn sheds Deron's monstrous deal and gets back more cap-friendly contracts
Philadelphia, since they're aren't going anywhere right now, might as well take a gamble on D-Will.

No incentive for Philly to do this. Send Brooklyn a bunch of expirings for one of the worst contracts in the league? And Philly already has MCW at the 1, and Micic is developing overseas. Philly would need picks (which Brooklyn lacks) and/or cheap young talent (Plumlee is really it for Brooklyn) to do it. No go for the Sixers.

Philadelphia would never ever in a million years with a gun to their head being tempted with a cherry on top consider this trade. 70/3? They have no reason to consider it. Deron Williams is a net negative when on the court and is owed obscene money. A rebuilding team in Philadelphia would never want to do it. Just a foolish idea for them all around.

That might be the worst rationale I've ever heard for a trade.

I mean, damn, at least give the Sixers Plumlee or any kind of incentive at all to entertain this offer.

Sixers take on the worst contract in the league for nothing because....

??

Any offer with Deron outgoing for expirings better include Plumlee and Bogs or else I don't see it as worth it.

 Wait, you mean DWill's final destination is Philly? He's not being routed to a third (desperate) team willing to take a shot? :o :noway:

Of every team in the league, Philly may be the least likely team of all to take Williams. I could probably come up with a more feasible Williams to OKC trade.

Maybe Philly plans on flipping Deron for Kanter and Favors?

I think the only person crazy enough to take on this contract is Billy King

I would imagine that the Nets would need to pour on the incentive to get the Sixers to take on WIlliams;

Coupled with the fact that the Sixer will likely want to be relevant prior to the end of the 2016/17 season when Williams deal is finally over.

Feasible as in Prok has a buddy of his buy the Thunder, then Perkins+Morrow+Lamb+Collison+McGary+TPE for Deron+Bogs+Plumlee

It is more feasible, yes....

I could see Philly taking on Amare for THJ?

Philly - Amare, THJ
Brooklyn - Shved, Bargs
NYK - Deron, Lopez

Yeah that's more feasible..

Or maybe..

Philly - Amare, THJ
Philly - Shved
NYK - Amare, Bargs, Calderon
NYK - Deron, Joe
Brooklyn - Deron, Joe
Brooklyn - Bargs, Calderon, Shved

Yeah?

Or...

Philly - Amare, THJ
Philly - Shved
NYK - Amare, THJ, Bargs, Calderon, Dalembert, TPE
NYK - Deron, Joe, Lopez, Teletovic
Brooklyn - Deron, Joe, Lopez, Teletovic
Brooklyn - Bargs, Calderon, Shved, Dalembert, TPE

NYK could run Lopez/Teletovic/Melo/Joe/Deron and be legit contenders for 40ish games the next two years :/... Brooklyn could sign any 2 players in free agency next offseason while completely clearing their tax this year and resetting the repeater tax.. Philly gets to the cap line if it matters..

That's somehow more feasible than Philly taking "a risk on Deron"

Deron would probably boycott the season.

At least then he could possibly be healthy and a bit more like his Utah-self in 2015-2016.. And the Sixers most-epic of epic tank seasons wouldn't be ruined.

If Deron agreed to take the entire year off, maybe Sixers would consider Plumlee+Bogs+Deron for Richardson+Shved...

Its not this year coming which is the concern though, we could easily accept that deal if he were on an expiring contract, its the hideous amount owed over the next 2 years which is the deal breaker. They just don't have nearly enough assets to warrant Sixers taking on the contract

Frankly, I don't think that even if they had a full complement of draft picks to go along with it would anyone consider picking up Deron Williams right now, given his massive deal still guaranteed for 3 more years at $22-25M a year. Insane. No one would do it, even with multiple first rounders attached. Plumlee and Bogdanovic is like chump change as incentive. This type of financial commitment would require franchise changing incentives for the Sixers to even think about it.
