Rajon Rondo for Jrue Holiday

Post#1 » by rein08 » Thu Oct 30, 2014 11:49 am

http://www1.realgm.com/tradechecker/saved_trade/6517480

Boston trades: Rajon Rondo and Jeff Green
New Orleans trades: Jrue Holiday and Tyreke Evans

Boston does this to truly begin their rebuild with Holiday and Smart at the helm.
New Orleans does this as an upgrade at PG and getting Jeff Green as the starting SF

EDIT: Swapped Gordon for Tyreke

Doubt the Pelicans do this because Holiday is locked in long term, and Rondo is expecting the max this coming free agency

Such horrible spacing for the Pelicans. And I don't think Rondo would like having to fight over the ball with another ball dominant player like Evans.

Yeah Rondo and Evans won't work on the same team. Gordon is actually a better pairing with Rondo. If there was any deal for Rondo Evans would have to be going out and then you'd have Rondo at the point, Gordon at the 2 and Green at the 3.

I'm pretty sure someone offered me Evans and Holiday in my GMAT league. I like both Evans and Holiday to build a team but the fact that the Celtics have Evan Turner, who already has Tyreke's skillset, I declined.

Wait - what? That's like saying that Denver already has Nate Robinson so there would be no need for Russell Westbrook.

Ha, that was basically my exact thought. And I probably like turner more than most but he's no Tyreke Evans.

Devil's advocate. I don't like this for Boston, while the rest of you don't like it for the Pelicans. Boston has a clear downgrade at point guard. They also have a significant downgrade from Green to Evans, and quite frankly, Evans has been a disappointment since his rookie year in SAC. If it is a money issue, then BOS could just let Rondo walk at season's end and run with Smart, which may be a better option than keeping Holiday and paying him more than he's worth. So I don't see any logical reason for the Celtics to do this.

What if the Bucks got involved?

Something like:

NO gets Rajon Rondo, Kendall Marshall, Jared Dudley
NO trades: Jrue Holiday

Boston gets: Milwaukee 1st round pick (lottery protected 2015, top 7 2016, top 3 2017, unprotected 2018)
Boston Trades: Rajon Rondo

Milwaukee Receives: Jrue Holiday
Milwaukee Trades: Kendall Marshall, Jared Dudley, 1st round pick

Just an idea. I am not sure I would like it as a Bucks fan. Just thinking out loud.

If I'm Boston, I take Holiday for Rondo and run with it.

Over the last few years the Pellies have added Holiday, Evans, Anderson, and Gordon (I know Gordon was signed earlier, but just go with it) to pair with Davis. Holiday was acquire at too high a cost, but he's been the only guy that seemed to fit really well with Davis last year.

It's hard to imagine the Pellies walking away from Holiday at this stage... they'd have to be infatuated with Rondo, and there's no evidence of that.

For Boston it makes sense IF (A) they think they a 1 or 2 years from being a playoff team, (B) they don't think Smart is a PG in the long-run, (C) they think Rondo is going to walk in FA, and (D) they can't get a blue chip prospect for Rondo in another trade... that's a lot of ifs.

Why would pels move holiday or Evans when they are on bargain contracts compared to a lot of what guys are getting paid now.

I'd do Tyreke and Gordon for Rondo and Gerald Wallace (Boston wouldn't), but we already have to sign Asik this summer, why roll the dice with Rondo and Green and give good players?

I think Rondo and Davis would work great together though.

This has its merits, but only if Rondo shows some indication he'd re-sign. I love the idea of Rondo throwing lobs to AD :o

Why does Boston want Holiday when they've just drafted Smart?
