MIA/LAL One man's trash...

Post#1 » by Paz » Tue Jan 27, 2015 2:24 am

HEAT Trade: Norris Cole + Justin Hamilton + 2018 2nd Rd Pick.
HEAT Receive: Wayne Ellington + Ed Davis

Why for HEAT:
Shores up two positions of need for a player I would like to see a piano fall on.

Chalmers/Napier
Wade/Ellington/Ennis
Deng/Granger/Williams
Bosh/Davis/Haslem/McRoberts
Birdman/Whiteside

Lakers Trade: Wayne Ellington + Ed Davis
Lakers Receive: Norris Cole + Justin Hamilton + 2018 2nd Rd Pick.

Why for the Lakers:
Gives them a relentless defender in Cole and a seven foot floor stretcher with a good offense in Hamilton. Balances the floor much better.

Cole/Price/Lin
Young/Clarkson/Kobe
Kelley/Johnson
Hill/Boozer/Randle
Hamilton/Sacre

Not sure what the incentive is here for LA. OKC would offer at least PJ if not more for Davis.

Commit to the tank job while picking up expirings only. PJ is playing the same position as both Randle and Black so it's a bit redundant.

This is pretty bad for the Lakers. They have no incentive to make this trade.

They do pick up a draft pick and unload these contracts in the offseason. They aren't vying for any playoff position so a worse record would work more in their favor. Perhaps if we made it a 2016 1st rd pick with a protection?

The problem is that Ed Davis and Ellington are the Lakers' trash. They are two of the Lakers' best trade pieces. They might get a late first around the trade deadline for Davis. They could probably get a second just for Cole.

Ellington had been buried by Scott and Davis is the reason that they are grabbing that pick but I wasn't referring to them when I was talking about "one man's trash" that was directed at Sr. Cole.

The Lakers don't need help tanking and that's always a terrible reason to do a trade. Cole will actually want to win games for them to show his value because he will want to be resigned. That's not going to help.

Lakers also want to develop Jordan Clarkson, their PG. They have no reason to want Cole. Hamilton is a better fit. He is a center that can stretch the floor.

Also a 2018 2nd round pick is not a very good asset.

I think the Lakers pass.

Word. That's 4/4 saying that this trade isn't a good one for the Lakers. How about this?

Ellington for Hamilton + 2018 2nd rd pick.

I don't think that's good for Miami, but it's closer.

With Kobe out, LA will need their backup SG.

Alright...

Last idea:
LAL out: Ed Davis + Wayne Ellington
LAL In: Gary Neal + Justin Hamilton + 2016 Miami HEAT 1st Rd pick (Right to Swap)

CHA out: Gary Neal
CHA in: Norris Cole

MIA out: Norris Cole + Justin Hamilton + 2016 Miami HEAT 1st Rd pick (Right to Swap)
MIA in: Wayne Ellington + Ed Davis

Got to give you credit, Paz. That's a much better deal for the Lakers.

It helps solve the problem in Charlotte too and even gets a backup SG in Miami. I'm probably the only Heat fan on the board that wishes that Hamilton had a few more chances to show his stuff. I really like him because he has an excellent ranged shot, but he has had a bad year.

MIA fans will probably think that the right to swap is a PLUS. It's not. The Lakers are going to put together a contender next year. They've cleared cap to do that.

The swap rights probably aren't going to matter for LA. Better chance LA is still pretty bad than there being a significant difference the other way. Don't really see that as adding value.

Next year they will have a high first round pick from this draft, coupled with Julius Randle who only played part of one game. In addition, they'll have FA signings. There are some great players out there like Kevin Love, Kahli Leonard, Marc Gasol, Jimmy Butler. I think they'll put together a good competitive team. Maybe it won't be a champion but hopefully it will give Kobe one more time to experience the postseason.

I'm not a Lakers fan. Perhaps one would be able to give their insight.

I'm glad u liked the final revision GOM. I would break the sound barrier making that trade.
