You're Danny Ainge: Best package of picks for Winslow?
With all the speculation about which picks Ainge offered for Winslow, it might be interesting to put everyone in his shoes and ask the best package of picks you would have offered.
Be very specific and please, picks only, no players.

My offer would have been 16, 28 and 33, along with the 2016 Celtic's first (unprotected) and the Philly 2016 2nd. That's very fair to move up 7 spots or so.

I remember reading somewhere what the picks would likely be, and it was quite understandable why you would not accept those later picks for something in the top 10. The pick that may have had the same/slightly less value is the BKN pick, otherwise as draft history shows only a few players only work out in the mid-late first round. The same could be said about the lottery, but at least there's a shot of landing an All-Star in there.

16 and 19 was the price for 11 a year ago. I don't think GMs thought much of this draft after the lotto, and as evinced by the lack of trades I don't think many were looking to trade out of those spots. I don't think 28 and 33 moved you.much in this draft. Now, I think Charlotte could have negotiated a deal that brought them back what they wanted plus some future picks like BKN 2016 and the Dallas pick in addition to 16 and maybe a player or two.

#16, both the Brooklyn and Dallas 2016 picks, and a player or two? Guess we disagree, that feels like an overpay and I'd do that for #8 from Detroit easily.

If #16 was included then I think Cho should have pulled the trigger. His guy was Kaminsky and I feel that the only team who may have taken him before #16 would (sadly enough) be the hawks at #15.
#16, #28, #33, and the DAL 1st would be my offer for Winslow at #9 or #10. I wouldn't have included the BRK 1sts because I feel like those are potential gold mine picks (especially if lopez and young arent re-signed).

No way would I accept 16, 28, 33, Dal 1st, 2nd rounders for Winslow.
Charlotte needs definitive talent now and those late picks are negligible. I would absolutely need the 16 and 2016 nets unprotected to move down. Don't need any of the other filler garbage picks.

Yeah, you guys are winning me over on this one. It would normally take something like 16 and 13 maybe to get up to 9? And to wait a year for the pick substituting for 13, you'd want it to look like it would be even higher. That's the Brooklyn pick.

Re: You're Danny Ainge: Best package of picks for Winslow?
I remember a while back saying Winslow was one of the few players in this draft that I'd use the 2016 Nets unprotected pick with #16 to move up and get.
And I think I'd still probably stand by that. I'd be slightly cautious because he did end up slipping to #10, which would make me question what other teams saw to take the likes of Johnson/Kaminsky over him, but as long as Ainge had him top 5 on his big board then I'm fine with it.
I personally probably would have offered #16, #28, Dallas 2016 (top 7 protected) and Minnesota 2016 first (lottery protected, likely two seconds) or that same package with the Celtics 2016 first unprotected. Throw in some seconds to get it done if need be.
I can understand if Charlotte said no because they want one shot at a top 10 guy vs. multiple shots at mid-round picks because the talent is just better in the top 10. At the same time I think it's a pretty reasonable offer and I think it would have been better for for Charlotte than taking Kaminsky (but that's because I don't like that pick).

Don't really agree. However, it is all about appraisal of players. Obviously Miami and Boston both view Winslow as a great value or else a deal would be done. Situationally, I see Miami maybe seeing an opportunity to do a complete rebuild and taking all of the BKN picks as well as this years 16. forget 28 and 33. So basically 3 picks in the 10-20 range over the next 4 years. Winslow most likely projects to a Shane Battier type. He could be better, but with all of those picks you are setting up well for the future. Let Wade walk, deal Bosh for a random as well. Perhaps LA for Randle and Clarkson. Deng opts in, he can be dealt for another first to a team looking for that position.
So to answer the question: 2016 BKN 1st, 2018 BKN first, this years 16th pick IMO would have been a great haul. Unprotected picks are such wild cards.
