Great contract for the Raptors.

Good deal for both sides. Raps get some slight cost savings in short term and JV gets the financial security/option to jump back into FA later.
Now if only TT would get his head out of his ass and take the 5/85 with 5th year PO!

If the Cavs give that knucklehead one dime more than $80 million the last year needs to be a T.O. Let's not kid ourselves, TT at $17 million per isn't opting out of any contract.

I don't think I can recall any kind of big/longterm contract where a player gave the team a TO in those final years. So, I'm sure that's a non-starter.
I'm ok going above 80 at this point just to end this saga. As we all know, 80 is ridiculous but I'm at the point, it's the cost of doing business. 80 or 85, is that really gonna make that big of a difference to say, F U, sign the QO and leave? Unless Rich Paul is all but demanding 94mil or bust, then yea, I'd be all for CLE telling TT to go pound salt but if TT were amenable to dropping down to the mid 80's, then let's get this done. At the very worst, we'll have a 17.5mil+ trade chip in years 2-4. We'll see.

Yes it's going to make a difference. Mozgov is an UFA next summer and no team can carry five max contracts. If TT accepts his $16 million per overpay, the Cavs will be $16 million over the cap (I'm adding in the additional $6 million LBJ will make) without counting the amount needed to re-sign Mozgov. So, if we have to offer Mozgov $16 million, we'll be $32 million over the cap while having only 6 players under contract. I think that TT is tradeable in two years at $16 million per with three years left on the deal and the cap at $108 million - but barely tradeable and only to a team that isn't looking to overpay other players. The more you pay TT, the less likely you make it that the Cavs are able to find a trade partner down the line. If you can't trade TT, and you have to break up the team, you're going to be trading some other player who you really don't want to trade.

Absolutely. They did great by locking him up early.
And this deal is solid too. I have no problem with it. An annual average value of 16 million is really fair for a true center who can rebound, block some shots, and is a reliable scorer inside.

12 PPG on 57% shooting in just 26 MPG is pretty damn good. Imagine if someone other than Kyle Lowry actually got him post touches? He's a very reliable scorer.

Re: Official: Valanciunas resigns
I think it's better that the offense doesn't revolve around Valanciunas. A perfect example is that the Hornets played better offensively last year when the guards and wings took more control of the game and we were not just dumping it to a less-than-100% Al Jefferson every trip down. I'm more shaky on Valanciunas's passing ability than I am on Jefferson's, and I'm just not sure that a Valanciunas-centric offense will work. Could they get him a couple more touches a game? Absolutely, but I think too much Valanciunas is also detrimental on both ends. The Raptors and Hornets both need to find some middle ground with their offensive bigs. We're too reliant on ours and the Raptors may not be utilizing him enough, but I don't think it's as big of a deal. I see plenty of similarities between Al and Val, both good and bad.

Jonas needs about 12 FGA a game and with his foul shooting will put up a extremely efficient 16 PPG with 12 RPG and 1.5 BPG playing 32 minutes. He is already a very good rim protector but needs to improve his overall defense and his passing. Obviously he isn't the focal point of the offense but will be a consistent and reliable contributor.

Val is a willing passer. Maybe not the best yet but he has shown some vision. The issue is that he will get a handful of post-ups every game, but there is little off ball movement... who is he going to pass to?
