Griffin trade idea, Clippers, Rockets, Hawks

Post#1 » by ThatBoyNick » Sat Jan 30, 2016 6:00 am

I understand Griffin being traded is unlikely, and that basically any trade scenario for him wouldn't bring back fair value, because its just really hard to match fair value for a superstar. But if the Clippers decide to move him, for win now pieces, I would like to know what you guys think of this idea, just for fun.

Dwight Howard, Terrence Jones to Hawks

Al Horford, Trevor Ariza, Donatas Motiejunas + 2 future Rockets 1st to Clippers

Blake Griffin, Tiago Splitter, Lamar Patterson to Rockets

Hawks place a legitimate top center next to Milsap in Howard, get Jones who is restricted this summer for bench depth

Clippers get to move Horford to his natural PF position, he would replace Griffin and be a nice fit with Paul, Jordan, Trevor Ariza a starter quality 3&D SF to finally fill that hole a their 3 spot, Donatas Motiejunas a (restricted) skilled 7ft big with potential as front court depth, and a two future Rockets 1st.

Rockets get Griffin to pair with Harden, Tiago Splitter to fill the center position, Lamar Patterson as a trade filler.

This trade would only be done under the hypothetical scenario that both Horford, Howard would give consent that they would re-sign with both teams in the summer.

Hawks Roster

Ariza / Johnson / Pierce
Horford / Motie / Moute
Jordan / Aldrich

Tough to see Atlanta doing this. Howard looks to be a bad investment on his next contract (assuming he gets something in the 4yr/$120M range that he would expect). Horford is a better bet to not fall off over the next 4 years so Atlanta would want to keep and attempt to resign him.

Pretty good value overall, thou I think one of the two HOU 1st rd picks should go to ATL, instead of both going to LAC. Ariza is a great fit for LAC & D-Mo will have good value if healthy.

This deal gives the Rockets a younger star, but it also makes them worse. With them losing every asset they they own, they don't really have any ways to improve themselves and leaves them at the mercy of free agency. For example, if they fail to land Durant or any other big name players, the Rockets will be stuck at the 8th seed(nba purgatory) for the foreseeable future.

I could easily imagine both Harden and Griffin leaving the Rockets when theyre contracts expire if not before.

As you could've guessed, I dislike the trade.

We went through this already. Howard does not really want to be a Hawk. No need to trade our best asset for him if he is going to leave this summer. I think Atlanta explored Horford trades and now have stated he is going no where. Most likely didn't like the value but Howard was the main talk of point for us. It seems like he just doesn't want to be a Hawk. It is what it is. Not sure he is a fit in Bud's system while Horford is a great fit for all Bud ask of Al.
