KOTB: Det/Hou

Post#1 » by HartfordWhalers » Wed Sep 7, 2016 9:52 pm

Detroit out: Baynes
Detroit in: Brewer and 2017 Denver 2nd

Houston out: Brewer and 2017 Denver 2nd
Houston in: Baynes

Why?

Detroit hands the 2nd string center over to Boban, and needs an extra plus defender at the sg/sf spot for depth behind KCP. And the 2nd is just icing. In addition it getsa guy under contract for next year when they otherwise just have the MLE.

Houston gets badly needed center depth, and clears a touch of cap room, or more if Baynes opts out.

Contracts:
Baynes: $6,500,000 $6,500,000 (PO)
Brewer: $7,612,172 $7,579,366

Brewer is simply awful, Detroit says no. Complete non-starter.

Stop shooting!

I think Houston does this for sure. Nene playing 65 games feels overly optimistic, we still don't know what's happening with Motie. I like Capela but he's just not enough especially with all the size in the West.

Detroit is harder for me. I wouldn't want to deploy either Johnson or Brewer at SG and thus I'm not sure there are minutes here. The 2nd is nice, but I think Detroit could get a more useful player?

I'll hold off voting for now, but leaning no.

I don't feel like paying Brewer that much next year. This is a no for me.

KOTB: No
Can't see the pistons doing this, Baynes doesn't have a lot of value but to me Brewer's negative value is more than the positive value of the 35-45th pick, so this is implying Aaron has negative value which I'd disagree with. There have been several baynes trades that make more sense than this version imo.

Pistons would want Ariza. Houston would be dumb to do that, Pistons wouldn't add anything to make it worth Houstons time.

The only team i could see be interested in Brewer is Philly. They are crazily under that cap, seem to love 2nd round picks and could absorb his contract. Just a matter of who would they trade (player wise). Not even sure Philly would want him.

Brewer is awful and I'm not sure I'd do this even if he didn't have an extra year on his deal.

KOTB: No
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy
