Minn/Phx: Dudley for Aldrich

Post#1 » by HartfordWhalers » Sat Jun 24, 2017 3:32 pm

Minnesota out: Cole Aldrich
Minnesota in: Jared Dudley

Phoenix out: Jared Dudley
Phoenix in: Cole Aldrich

Why?

Phoenix shaves guaranteed money, and if Len is let go gets some more stopgap minutes without much of a long term commitment (Cole only is guaranteed 2m after this year).
Minnesota adds more vets, and Dudley as a small ball 4 or extra sf depth is a useful player still. With Shabazz expected to walk (by me at least), and Wiggins ideally getting most of his minutes at sg, the sf minutes behind Butler look somewhat open.

Now that I think of it more. I do like this deal better than the one posted. Dudley is a better shooter, not consistently banged up with injuries. Would be a nice fit in MN. Question would be is if Phx would take Aldrich.

I don't think they get a full expiring for him at this point. And Aldrich adds leverage/insurance on Len. But mostly it frees up cap space, whether for an unexpected run at star free agents or to use in rebuilding trades/signings.

I'm game as long as Thibs doesn't have a star lined up for the cap space

Also, the girl who cuts my hair gets called by Dudley when he's in town but that's neither here nor there

you lose only a little cap space. And if it was that big a deal Phoenix could take Bjelica.

I'd ask for a 2nd if I was the Suns, but this deal seems sensible.

To be honest, I'm mildly upset you chose to comment on this post of his rather than his following one, Chuck.

No thanks. Aldrich isn't terrible and the deal isn't far off, but Duds has more value on the court for PHX right now, and a considerably higher value off the court.

I'd definitely be in favor of Dudley for an expiring big. Great teammate but Suns still have veteran leadership without him.

I don't know if Dudley is the right player, but I do believe Minnesota could try to deal Aldrich to a team that wants a more cap-friendly piece at the expense of a rotation player. Unfortunately, it seems like most teams want immediate cap relief for free agency, so not sure how Aldrich fits into this.

I like the deal for the Wolves. Minnesota needs a couple of wings off the bench and Dudley could fill that role nicely. With the drafting of Patton it seems like Aldrich is one center too many, so moving him for a vet wing (or cap space) makes a lot of sense.

Love it for MN, not sure if it makes sense for Phoenix. I guess that would depend a lot on what they want to do with Len, but I guess with Jackson, Warren, and a lot of the other young players there might not be a need for Dudley.

The issue is that Cole would probably be easier to dump for cap space. So if Blake Griffin or somebody wants to sign...

Seems like a deal you can come back to after the first rush of free agency when both teams know where they stand.

Dudley is a perfect fit for Minnesota.

Great vet presence who.will buy in to Thibs.

Not sure PHX want Aldrich, though.

Nah, Dudley is a better player and great locker room guy for the young fellas.
