Post Free agency TRADE BLOCK and TEAM NEEDS -- Add yours! (15 of 30)

Post#1 » by HartfordWhalers » Wed Jul 19, 2017 3:32 pm

We used to have a sticky for this. You take your team and in one to four sentences encapsulate what anyone unfamiliar with your team should know when making a trade for them. Then that will get truncated to a few informative snippets and added into the OP so everyone can make great trades for the team in question.

Examples (may not be the actual team needs):

Charlotte Hornets: Need a bench scorer at the 3 or even 4. If MCW fails at backup pg, a replacement there. Looking to make playoffs without mortgaging future significantly. Have available a protected pick, Lamb, possibly Kaminski.

New York Knicks: Picks and youth to fit around Porzingis, Frank, and TH jr. A Melo trade that Melo says yes to and helps rebuild, KOQ, Lee, and any other vets available. Moving Noah is nice but rebuilding is the focus, not getting ready for FA again.

List so far:
Atlanta Hawks
Boston Celtics
Brooklyn Nets: Needs: Young rookie deal players (scoring big?), picks. Available: All but Lin, LeVert and Russell
Charlotte Hornets: Cheap low usage sf/pf C&S spacer (8/9th man type). Available: non-guarantees + 2nd(s).
Chicago Bulls: Needs: draft picks, maybe vet 3/4. Available: Wade big expiring. Payne/Grant, maybe Lopez?
Cleveland Cavaliers
Dallas Mavericks: Forward, rebuilding pieces? Available: most players not named Dirk or Smith
Denver Nuggets Needs: vet PG, consolidation Available: Faried, Mudiay, Nelson, Arthur, '18 1st; Chandler? Barton?
Detroit Pistons
Golden State Warriors
Houston Rockets: Need: PG/SG insurance (3&D ideally). Available: Ryan Anderson for Melo, $5.2M in min contracts
Indiana Pacers: Need backup wing. Talent to build around Turner. Available: Thad Young and Al Jefferson.
LA Clippers
LA Lakers: Needs: Dump Deng and Clarkson for 2018 cap space. Available: Not Ingram/Ball. 2020 pick, Randle...
Memphis Grizzlies
Miami Heat
Milwaukee Bucks
Minnesota Timberwolves: Needs: wing depth, backup pg? Available: Aldrich, 2nds, OKC 1st. Longer contract okay
New Orleans Pelicans: Needs: Cut salary for tax room (QPOn/Anjica/Asik). Available: 2018 1st, 2nd, Cheick Diallo
New York Knicks
Oklahoma City Thunder: Needs: 3/4 depth, shooting, bench scoring. Available: Kanter Other: pick tied up till 2022
Orlando Magic
Philadelphia 76ers: Needs: backup sf, sg of the future behind Redick, future assets? Available: Okafor
Phoenix Suns: Needs: Rebuilding assets, dumping Knight Available: Bledsoe, Chandler Dudley, long term $
Portland Trail Blazers
Sacramento Kings
San Antonio Spurs
Toronto Raptors : Need 3/4 depth with shooting. Center? Available: Jonas Valanciunas and Lucas Nogueira
Utah Jazz: Big man scoring. Available: O'Neale/Bolomboy/Neto. Mid season ? on FA's Favors, Hood and Exum
Washington Wizards

Philadelphia 76ers: Need any taker for Jahlil Okafor at any positive price prior to the start of the season (before the decision on his 4th year option needs to be made).

Oklahoma City Thunder:

Need help at the 3 and 4—could really use a swingman or true PF with decent shooting and defense to back up Patterson. Would be nice to find a taker for Kanter, but would need some sort of offensive punch off the bench in return. Cannot trade first-round picks (well, 2022, but that ain't happening). Have some shooting, but need more—playable shooters, not scrubs who can't defend.

Toronto Raptors:

Needs a forward who can shoot and play both the 3 and the 4, Jonas Valanciunas and Lucas Nogueira are the main players on the block.

Pacers:

Could probably use a backup wing. Have a glut of bigs, but several may see a ton of time in Fort Wayne so maybe not a huge problem. FO has made it a priority to not take on long money, so long deals are likely a no-go unless the player is worth it. Overall just need talent to put around Turner (likely our only true untouchable).

We have so many new guys so our trading block is limited and, but it would likely just include Thad Young and Al Jefferson.

Houston Rockets:

Need a cheap PG/SG as an insurance policy in case one of Paul, Harden, or Gordon miss games throughout the season. Preferably a player than can hit threes, defend a position, and can play 15-20 minutes on select nights for a playoff driven team.

On the trading block we have Ryan Anderson, who will likely stay under contract with us until a Melo deal is resolved. If talks die between us and New York then we'll likely keep Anderson past the deadline because he fits our style of play and provides welcomed shooting. We also have about $5.2M in movable minimum contracts available for another rotational player.

UTAH JAZZ

Needs

- Rodney Hood to turn into a #1 option?
- Scoring up front. Neither Favors nor Gobert is useless on that end, but our big-man depth is all question marks after that and none can really rack up the baskets. Since our PGs are Rubio and Exum, that puts a LOT of pressure on our wings (see Rodney Hood comment above).

That said...

We just took a huge gut-punch in losing our best offensive player for nothing. We've filled out the roster with youth and role-player vets, so we have no roster spots. I don't foresee us making any trades until later in the season, when we will have to decide to fish or cut bait on Favors, Hood and Exum.

Trade Block

- probably no one at this time. We did just offer guaranteed money to Royce O'Neale despite afore-mentioned full roster, so one of O'Neale himself/Bolomboy/Neto will likely get cut since none have trade value.

LA Lakers: We need people to take on Clarkson and Deng. We'd be down to move anyone not named Ball/Ingram and a future first to make it happen. Otherwise I'm sure we're fine with standing pat unless we're acquiring future assets.
Rest in peace Mamba. There'll never be another Kobe.

Brooklyn Nets
NEEDS
Roster wise we don't really need anything since season isn't about winning, it's about development. If there was a positional need it would be a scoring big man. There are no real offensive threats up front with RHJ, Booker, Acy, Nicholson, Mozgov and Allen, which is why I kind of liked Olynyk in Free Agency.

So really, the need is to keep cap space for another salary dump between now and the deadline. Future picks are nice, but a young player on a rookie contract might be preferred (like Russell ).

BLOCK
Anyone other than Lin, LeVert and Russell is readily available. We're not paying to dump Mozgov, DMC or Nicholson, so I assume they aren't going anywhere. We have a glut of guards so I would think Kilpatrick, Harris, Goodwin are readily available. Booker might be an attractive piece as a high character, productive, expiring big man.

Let's do it. But I don't see a trade that works.

Dallas;

What do you mean "post" free agency? The offseason hasn't started yet, right?

We most likely aren't going to do anything but we need(ish) another forward. Either position is fine. We'd probably only give up a 3rd string center or PG to make it happen..

Or once teams are able to sign players that were on other teams last year, we could look to fill that via free agency. Or we won't fill it and just bank on McBob/Wes and Bruss. (And we could use a starting center.)

Dallas doesn't need a spot itt as we have no destination.

I really hate suggesting this due to the history, but Kanter would be a genuinely interesting option there. He's matured a lot since his unceremonious exit.

Chicago Bulls

have to trade: Dwayne Wade and his expiring $23.6m contract for anyone interested in a formerly great player who needs rest and is likely to get injured. They aren't trading any picks. They don't want to trade Wade on a one year expiring deal for veterans with long contracts, it defeats the purpose of clearing cap space, flexibility and rebuilding. They might trade Cameron Payne for some other team's headache, after he left the summer league team or Jerian Grant if it helps a deal.

need: draft picks, any and all that Wade could bring. I believe they could use a veteran 4 who can play in the paint as insurance against Portis regressing or Markkanen not being an instant contributor. They could use a veteran 3 in the event they trade Wade, right now they have Valentine, Zipser and Holiday to man the 3 any of which could make a big step up or make no gains, won't know until they play.

I don't subscribe tot he dump Robin Lopez camp. Lopez has got a reasonable deal, they have nobody in line to start at the 5 once he's gone. Felicio is their only other 5 and he's developing into a good backup and signed for 4 years but he's nowhere near ready to start. Portis can be a backup 5 and Markkanen doesn't weigh 220 pounds. Despite so many who think the Bulls want to tank to get in the top 4, you're no brighter than Joe Cowley they ain't that kind of organization. They might end up in the lottery but they aren't going to tumble to 20 wins and embarrass the city.

now they have

Dunn Grant Payne
Wade Valentine
Lopez Felicio
Lavine Holiday Zipser
Portis Markkanen

Yeah Kanter is persona non grata here, I don't see the Jazz's arms being open on that one.

Val and Vuc are possibilities but they would be limited minute players behind our star (and Quin likes playing Favors at the 5 also when Gobert sits). Their contracts are probably not a good fit for that role, and I suspect Toronto (and maybe Orlando) could get better deals from teams that would have more use for their guys.

I do like Thad but I don't know what that deal would look like. (Burks seems obvious but we still need him until we see how Hood and Mitchell pan out, and Indy doesn't need him regardless.)

We probably need a guy on a small salary until we decide what happens with Favors...but cheap doesn't come cheap :D

Minnesota Timberwolves

The Wolves need wing depth badly, but likely need to look for options with the vet minimum (bringing back Rush for example)

Otherwise, they could be offering Aldrich for a wing on a longer deal (Courtney Lee, Dudley etc.) and possibly throwing in future 2nds or OKC pick

I think Thibs may be looking to bring in a vet PG as well, because I'm not sure he trusts Tyus. However, our big rotation should be set with KAT/Gibson/Dieng/Bjelica

Currently I think our rotation will look like

Teague (30) Tyus (18)
Wiggins (24) Crawford (24)
Butler (36) Wiggins (12)
Gibson (22) Bjelica (16) Dieng (10)
KAT (36) Dieng (12)

Thibs also talked about rolling out a Teague/Crawford/Wiggins/Butler/Towns lineup occasionally today, which would be a difficult lineup to matchup against (unless you're the Warriors).

Scoring big man? check

Ok playing limited minutes? check

Small salary? check

Congrats, you are now the proud owner of one Jahlil Okafor.
