They think he’s the last part between them and contending for a championship. So do what you gotta do to keep that hope going when Murray gets back.

Is it crazy to think they’d look into trading MPJ because a) he could yield a ton of value and b) because their starters’ salary is more than almost every total team if they max out MPJ…?

Yeah, it's very tough to see them keeping the current lineup together if they end up maxing Porter. Maybe you give it a try for one year and then send out the guy you care least about for salary savings. Three max deals basically take you out of the running for above average starters being paid market rates.

But, hey, nice to see a smaller market willing to pay up for a contender for now at least.

Get they wanted to lock him up but that's 5m per year too much

Well they literally just lost Grant even though they were willing to pay him the same as the Pistons. There's always risk in FA.

An over the cap team spending a few extra million to lock up a guy isn't crazy.

He is proving his worth this year. He really stepped up his game. He is making better reads on the floor. Perfect fit next to Jokic. In his exit interviews last year he said he needed to be smarter playing next to jokic and plans to study tape. It is paying dividends this year he is the second best player on the nuggets this year. Yes I know Murray will take that over as the season progresses. Aaron has been spectacular on offense for the Nuggets this season.

He's a really good player and the perfect partner to Jokic. Wish they would not have extended MPJ, though.

This is kind of like a cousin of Milwaukee having the perfect C for Giannis in Brook Lopez, Nuggets will prob win a championship one day with Gordon as like the 4th or 5th most heralded player but vital in his own way. I wonder what Embiid's frontcourt-mate will be.

As an ORL fan and frequent critic of "Next Paul George" AG plan...I'm really happy for AG. He's absolutely in the perfect spot to maximize his formidable but limited skills. I enjoy seeing him finishing lobs from the best passing big man in history. I hope he really locks down on defense in the playoffs this season...even though he's well regarded, I still feel he's underrated as a finisher.

AG has settled in as a good fit with Jokic. It’s too bad the rest of the team is so meh because I think it really limits them to a conference semis ceiling.

I believe the fact that there are a lot of teams projected to have cap space over the next two off-seasons coupled with a potential market shaking cap spike in 2025 is going to create a new normal. Anyone signing a deal extending beyond 2025 will require a premium over today’s normal market.

You don’t think any team would want AG at that price?

I mean possibly. I'm not the biggest fan. Feels like he benefits playing off of Jokic.

No not really sure he gets passes from jokic. But he has really grown since that warriors series where Draymon bullied him all playoffs. He put in the work mentally and physically. Deserves all of the credit

I was impressed with him since his Magic days, he was never going to justify his draft position as an offensive focal point, neither was he a defensive anchoring big, but he is a great cog to any defensive/offensive scheme with his size, athleticism and IQ.

Props to Nuggets GM who saw the vision of the whole team without having them play together due to injuries.

Saddens me to this day that Anfernee Simons was the holdup in a rumored trade to send AG to the Blazers. We then traded for Covington instead.

This thread been bumped twice over the years. That’s cute.

Impressive build around a generational player, willingness to pay to keep the team, and the players all playing in their roles and excelling.. It’s fun to watch.

He’s basically at half a Max which isn’t bad for the production he provides. His next contract will be interesting. I probably commented that it was a risky contract when he signed it?, but looks pretty good in hindsight.

this aged very welll... Gordon has improved a ton as an impact player simply because of how well he fits with Jokic.

His skillset is more replaceable than Lopez but Denver's obviously going to want to keep it all together. He can be extended this summer, right?
