First thought is that each guy makes much more sense on the team he's already on. :dontknow:

The Jazz want a stretch 5 and think Kessler is a dinosaur because he can't shoot while the Pistons hate Ivey because they think he's too stupid to play.

Both guys were benched for pretty bad players because their coaches think so little of them.

Ivey gives the Jazz the upside they want while Kessler will help the Pistons actually be a competent team.

Detroit has Duren. I dont see why they'd want Kessler

And Ivey trade should solve their forward issues, not their C non-issue

Duren is one of the worst centers in the league currently.

Is this the thing where everyone is too expensive to fire so they create another expensive position to oversee the lemons hoping it will fix things?

He's also 20, steadily improving, and at least a couple seasons away from finding his level. He's got the hands and feet to be a good C, but nowhere near the experience and understanding

DET's roster has a ton of holes right now, so unfortunately "worst in the league . . ." is a pretty common complaint about our players.

No, my imagination can’t stretch that far. And I think Imagination-Enhancing Drugs are against the rules here, Barry Bonds.

You know I really personally hate ideas like that. Goes against my interests which is in discussing things that might actually could happen. But I've learned there is a sizable minority here that really loves this kind of fantasy scenario creation. So if he wants to really go full spongebob, he put it in the right thread. :D

ridiculous premise aside, that post made me wonder how many players would NOT be available for the Spurs entire war chest of picks. Let's say the Spurs are gifted #1 again this year, they have the following picks to throw around:

#1 this year
2025 ATL 1st
2025 TOR 1st (top 6 prot)
2025 CHI 1st (top 10 prot)
2025 CHA "1st" (almost definitely becomes 2 2nds)
2025 SAS 1st
2026 1st swap (better of ATL/SAS)
2027 SAS 1st
2027 ATL 1st
2028 1st swap (better of BOS/SAS)
2029 SAS 1st
2030 1st swap (better of DAL/SAS)
2031 SAS 1st
multiple 2nds in just about every draft, some appetizing ones too.

That is a really strong package for basically anyone below the Giannis tier of trade assets.

I’ve thought about deals like this over the years, and come to the conclusion that at a certain level of talent or popularity, a GM can’t trade his hometown superstar ticket-seller for any price. At a minimum, the star must have failed to bring a championship for several years, and also be open to a trade elsewhere.

For example, in Minnesota, Ant is not at Giannis level, and he is not worth this amount of assets. However, the GM couldn’t trade him for this treasure trove without being run out of town with pitchforks! The economist in me wants to say that there is a price for everything, but in practicality, I imagine there is a larger group of “untradeable at any price” players than we would think. I suspect this is why we haven’t seen Sam Presti turn his massive horde of picks into a superstar.

Power struggles are how franchises make the worst decisions. Assuming this is a straight demotion as portrayed and not a looming power struggle, I’m great with it.

If (owner) Tom Gores is making the decision about who will be reporting directly to him as President of Basketball Operations, I'm not expecting a huge shift in Detroit -- just one more layer of management to blamestorm about who is most responsible for this mess.

And yes, I think Troy Weaver (4 years, 74 wins, no clear path to relevance) doesn't deserve to keep his job and should be grateful that he is only being demoted.

DC passes with ease. Kuz/Herro are comparable players, but Kuz plays a more valuable role/position and makes less money (20M vs 30M /year).
Herro is a terrible fit with our team having Poole, Butler, Kispert, Tyus Jones, etc.
