What if SAS takes a guy high that fits at PF (Matas or Holland fit the bill here) -

Simons for Sochan, 2025 CHI FRP (10 / 8 / 8), few SRP

G - Anfernee Simons / Tre Jones / Stephon Castle (TOR FRP)
G - Devin Vassell / Stephon Castle (TOR FRP) / Malachi Branham
F - DeMar DeRozan (FA) / Keldon Johnson / Devin Vassell
F - Matas Buzelis (SAS FRP) / DeMar DeRozan / Tristan da Silva (SAS SRP)
C - Victor Wembanyama / Zach Collins / Charles Bassey

Why not give Johnson instead of Sochan?

PDX IMO wouldnt have much interest in Johnson. We would want to go young, hopefully at least.

Also think Keldon as a 6th man in SAS is a pretty nice fit - rare to have a 6th man of that caliber this early in a rebuild. And w/ SAS in this scenario using one of their high picks on a PF the door to move Sochan opens a bit IMO.

nah I'm good, much rather let one of our thousand score-first SGs figure things out. NSJ was looking like a quality SG midseason, and Tre Mann is also doing quite well, plus some playmaking ability.

I think we're done paying big for that archetype. We need a big wing that can defend between Melo and Miller

I get wanting a 2 way guard especially with Ball being meh on defense but bringing up Mann as a guy with Simons potential is wild. Simons is 15 months older and Mann has scored more than Simons current average a whole 6 times.

I have watched a lot of Simons and I just don’t think he has it in him.

He’s a scorer and that’s it.

With the right coaching staff, he can. I've watched Jalen Green go from just a scorer who was basically a cone in defence to a legitimately impactful defender both as part of the team defence and individually over the last 6 months.

nowhere did I say he has Simons potential. I'm just saying that archetype is good off the bench and that the priority needs to be a completely different archetype if we're going to use assets to acquire an upgrade.

Ideally if Portland is moving on from a stablished player, should be them adding picks for a better player? Do they have reasons to get a worse player and pick for him? I like Keldon and a first in 2025 for him, but more for the spurs than for portland. Keldon is a decent scorer locked in a contract that can be seen as cheap if he can get a bit closer to the 20ppg he had last year. Simons is a better player, is a worse of hawks and spurs pick in 2025 the difference in value?

IF Detroit can move Duren for Trey Murphy, a dream perhaps, would Ivey and top pick to move down for Simons and say 4th pick work? Detroit would basically move down to draft Alex Sarr anyhow, so if he's available at where Porland drafts just swap em and swap Ivey/Simons?

WCJ, 2024 ORL 1st, 2025 Den 1st, 2 2nds. We should be able to absorb him into cap space I believe, but can include more salary if need be.

I would highly prefer a 2026 ORL LP FRP over a 3rd FRP in this draft. And would hope WCJ could be re-routed to a 3rd team (OKC?)

PDX OUT - Anfernee Simons
PDX IN - Osumane Dieng, 2024 UTA FRP (Top-10 / Top-10 Top-8), 2025 DEN FRP (Top-5 / Top-5 / Top-5), 2026 ORL FRP (LP / LP / LP), 2027 BOS SRP, 2030 ORL SRP

ORL OUT - Wendell Carter JR, 2025 DEN FRP (Top-5 / Top-5 / Top-5), 2026 ORL FRP (LP / LP / LP), 2027 BOS SRP, 2030 ORL SRP
ORL IN - Anfernee Simons

OKC OUT - Osumane Dieng, 2024 UTA FRP (Top-10 / Top-10 / Top-8)
OKC IN - Wendell Carter JR

3 FRP for Simons seems high but they are all pretty low variance and likely to be 20 or below.

I like this construction as well, I don't know if OKC would do it, but if they're in, ORL likely says yes.

Agree. But I like Simons in Charlotte. Decent fit with Ball and can fill in when injured. I think 2024 1st should be Blazers target. Add 2x high end players added to Scoot and Sharpe - more bites at the apple sooner.

Simons + Grant + #13

FOR

Grant Williams + Micic + #2 + maybe one of those owed 1sts

Blazers draft Sarr or Risacher with Hornets pick and BPA with own top 5. Add a 2025 tank 1st to that stable of youth and one of the best in NBA.

Ya, it would require OKC to be down on Dieng, but the offensive fit of WCJ in their 4 out system + his passing would be such a great system fit.

He is a terrible defensive player.

He would easily be best perimeter player on ORL.
