Draft Night Deal: Markannen to OKC

Post#1 » by Bentley1225 » Mon Apr 15, 2024 9:00 pm

Ill offer his idea for:
-OKC to leverage its excess picks to further create greater contender while Giddey/Holmgren/Williams on rookie deals and Markannen is in last year of reasonable deal
-Jazz further add to draft pick pipeline while adding a starting calibre wing

To Utah
-Lugentz Dort (2 years, $34.2 million plus T.O.)
-2024 Houston 1st round pick
-2026 2nd least favourable of 2026 OKC 1st, LAC 1st round pick and Houston 2026 1st round pick (1-4 protected)

To OKC
-Lauri Markannen (1 year, $18 million)

Why?
-Utah adds a young starting calibre wing, a 2024 1st and a distant 2026 1st for the expiring Markannen using the Siakam deal as a barometer.

Sexton/1st/FA?
Clarkson/George/FA?
Dort/Sensabaugh/FA?
Collins/Hendricks/Bazley?
Kessler/1st/Yurtseven?

-OKC upgrades frontcourt as they look to further add to their contention window with excess picks/while core guys under rookie deals

SGA/Wallace/1st?
Giddey/Joe/Wiggins
J.Williams/Hayward?/Waters
Markannen/K. Williams/Dieng
Holmgren/Williams/FA?

I’m lower on Lauri’s value than most.. But I think they can do better than one first and a “worst of” first.. Dort also feels like the wrong contract to add here. best friend and good contract. And Utah would likely just be flipping Dort anyways.

Feel like Dort out and Giddey/Dieng in mostly correct the value.. Dort is an odd choice for the contract/value.

I do think given OKC’s ridiculous cap situation, they could sit on 14 million and actually renegotiate Lauri. Making them one of the most realistic trade destinations IMO, and few that may pay the asking price..

The Spurs should have no problem trashing this offer.

This is far more realistic and assuming this is done with the full intent of Lauri extending via OKC cap space, I would be inclined to do more

Giddey, Jazz pick returned, rockets 2024 1st, 2025 Heat pick, Rockets 2026 1st, and if Jazz want they can have Ousmane Dieng

Yeah Giddey, 12, some future pick combo of a good 1st and/or a couple protected ones

Jazz decline the OP. Not close for Utah. It's basically Dort and Ron Holland for Lauri, with a late 1st added in.
