Instant Reaction: What Does Golden State Do This Off-Season?

Post#1 » by NYG » Wed Apr 17, 2024 4:31 am

What do the Warriors do this off-season?

Do they keep Klay? Do they just run it back mostly? Do they keep CP3 or renounce his salary to get below the tax? If they keep Paul, do they trade him? Do they trade any of the young guys?

They'll probably keep Klay and swing for a big trade. When they miss, run it back. There's not always an easy way around the inevitable decline of a core, especially one that is aging together. I think management also has the memory of the dynasty years on their side: less pressure to stop the slide, perhaps.

They keep Klay as a splash bro

Curry, Podz, Klay, Green, Looney
GP2, Moody, Kuminga, TJD, Saric

I think Wiggins get traded. I think one of Draymond or Kuminga gets traded.

I think CP3 walks to somewhere else, Lakers maybe

CP3 should walk right back to OKC where he can be saved and used as a great backup PG in the playoffs, can be a true point there and mentor Cason Wallace all at a reasonable price as OKC transitions into being true competitors.

I don't think GSW should bring back Klay if he asks for more than the MLE. It's too rough with the rest of the roster, imo. Probably a hard conversation to have with Steph, but is necessary I think.

Blow it up. The run is over!

What does Curry want? He deserves it so ask him and go from there.

Their primary goal is to go under the luxury tax, so CP3 is out.
Warriors signed 10 years for 134 mils, and the luxury tax threshold is 172 mils. So, they have 38 mils to work with.
Klay... I think they will sign him for two years unless Klay somehow finds a big contract from another team. Something around 30-40 mils for two years is my guess.
They will start focusing more on younger players, but I don't expect a complete tanking job as long as Curry is there. Wiggins may or may not be traded depending on what's on the market, but I don't expect a trade involving multiple future first round picks for an All-Star unless it's a slam dunk trade. Most likely, Warriors will coast for next couple years till Curry retires and go for a rebuilding process.

Blow it up.

Curry + Green

FOR

#3 (2024 Hornets 1st) + Grant Williams + Micic + as many future 1sts as they can get

Wiggins to highest bidder (Raps= Brown and 2nds?)

Let Klay and Paul ring chase.

It's Curry's decision TBH, he decides if he wants to stick around or leave, or alternatively, LeBron fails to beat DEN and decides to join Steph, and join hands against the Nuggets, in which case GSW will keep their insane payroll and trade for James.

The decline of Curry/Klay/Draymond keeps them from being title contenders and isn't really fixable.

In theory they could deal Curry and go full rebuild. They don't have the pick debt that some teams do and the WC looks to be tough for the next several years.

But I'm pretty sure they want Curry to be a 1 team player and will ride the core into the sunset. They'll waive Paul to avoid paying massive luxury taxes . Sign Klay to something reasonable for 2 more years (there are enough SG's on the market that I don't see anyone throwing stupid money at Klay). They may look to make a reshuffling move involving Wiggins, Kunminga or Looney but if nothing materializes they could mostly stand pat.

It was reported that no one wants Wiggins. He their most tradable salary hypothetically but where would he go and what can he return?

They're pretty much stuck in no man's land.

No one wants Wiggins' contract,
Curry and Draymond are staying unless one or both of them request a trade
Klay should either walk or sign an inflated "farewell" 1 year deal
Podziemski makes Moody expendable so I expect Moody to be traded (plus didn't Moody complain about his role this year?)
CP3 will be gone
Kuminga will probably sign an extension at some point next season

The Warriors do draft well so I have no concern about their future.

Sending Kuminga and salary(CP3) for better players. Retool. I think they will keep Klay for 6th man money at best.

CP3+Looney+Kuminga+picks to Hawks for Dejounte and Hunter?

without PG13 3-3

It'd be interesting to see what they could get for Kuminga

think we've seen the last of Klay in a warriors uni. He either goes to Orlando/Spurs for an overpay 2 year deal, or lakers on MLE type.

Wiggins could get moved. Then I think they stock up for a year before trying to get Curry a new #2.
