Jerami Grant 4-Team Deal: Mavericks - Warriors - Rockets - Trail Blazers

Post#1 » by NYG » Fri Apr 19, 2024 11:50 pm

Dallas Mavericks get:
Andrew Wiggins

-Gives: Tim Hardaway Jr. and Maxi Kleber

Why: They take a shot on a wing that is very productive when his head is in it without giving up a ton given their limited assets.

===

Golden State Warriors get:
Jerami Grant
Duop Reath

-Gives: Andrew Wiggins and Lottery Protected 2025 Golden State Warriors First Round Draft Pick (2026 - Top 10 Protected / 2027 - Top 8 Protected / 2028 - Top 4 Protected or becomes 2029 Golden State Warriors Second Round Draft Pick)

Why: I think if you replaced Wiggins with Grant and Reath, the Warriors would be a 50-win team this season. Grant provides enough of an upgrade and a skillset for a forward that isn't really available with Reath being a solid fill-in off the bench too.

===

Houston Rockets get:
Tim Hardaway Jr.

-Gives: Jeff Green

Why: They add some wing scoring off the bench without really losing anything.

===

Portland Trail Blazers get:
Maxi Kleber
Jeff Green (waived)
Lottery Protected 2025 Golden State Warriors First Round Draft Pick (2026 - Top 10 Protected / 2027 - Top 8 Protected / 2028 - Top 4 Protected or becomes 2029 Golden State Warriors Second Round Draft Pick)

-Gives: Jerami Grant and Duop Reath

Why: Portland gets below the tax and gets a first round pick for their downgrade from Grant to Kleber while saving a ton of money long-term.

Is Grant the missing piece to get the Warriors back to the finals? I think not, so I’d rather hold the picks and Wigs until something better comes along.

If the front office did this though, I could buy into why, just not something I would want right now.

Works for this Blazers fan.

Edit: Also, unless we need the roster spot or Green demands it, I’m fine keeping him around as a veteran teacher for the young guys.

I don't think there is a missing piece out there right now so it's probably make a move like this and hope to catch better breaks to 50+ wins

Also Duop Reath strikes me as the type of guy that ends up having a real positive impact for the Warriors

If we could trade Wiggins for a guy like Derozan, that would be better so we could let Klay walk. It would change our style of play and help Steph more. Kuminga can take the 3-man role, along with GPII and Moody, so I'd look to trade Wiggins for a SG before this type of thing.

I don’t think GSW can trade that FRP. POR has GSW pick this year (top 4 protected).

It would be post-draft and Stepien only includes future drafts

I think this is pretty decent . Seems like Wiggins could use a fresh start and I think he could be a nice fit in Dallas. For Portland I think it’s good but do they feel that way? They just signed Grant to that deal last year. Maybe getting a pick out of it is worth it. I love it for Golden State. I can see them being dodgy about giving up a first though, but if they want to make another shot at it with Steph

Pass for Warriors. No way Warriors are picking up Grant's 4 years/132.4 mils, and he will directly compete minutes with Kuminga. And, Warriors would likely spend a pick if that will bring a significant improvement. Going from the 10th seed to the 7th seed is meaningless at this point.

Logical. Wonder if there is a way for GSS to send more salary to Portland and take back Kleber who makes more on court sense for them than Reath. His defensive versatility and theoretical spacing give them a dimension at center they lack. And they would still be win now and Portland wouldn't.

They could send Looney out for Maxi and it still works if Klay's 2024-25 salary is $20 Million or lower. Portland probably still does that, right?

Portland should prefer it since Maxi's deal is more money. And they shouldn't really care about either guy as an actual player much at all in this scenario.

Does adding in Maxi and Looney into the trade change these players to an upgrade to Klay at SG? No, so again, not appealing at all.
