ORL shake up, with IND/UTA/MIN

Post#1 » by HotSpurs21 » Sat Jan 5, 2008 4:45 pm

Orlando
out: Tony Battie, JJ Redick, Keyon Dooling, Adonal Foyle, Brian Cook, 2008 1st
in: Troy Murphy, Marko Jaric, Ryan Gomes, Jason Hart, future 2nd from IND

They get some gritty players like Murphy, Gomes, and Hart to toughen up the team, while Jaric's versatility should be a big boost for their backcourt as well. Murphy's rebounding and 3-pt shooting should help them and make him a nice fit alongside Howard, and enable Lewis to start at SF, and bring Turkoglu off the bench to be their sixth man. The 1st they give up will very likely be a low 1st, so it's not much risk involved. They will be an 12-deep team that should be able to have a deep run into the playoffs.

Rotation:
Howard/Murphy/Augustine
Murphy/Gomes/Lewis
Lewis/Turkoglu/Evans
Bogans/Jaric
Nelson/Arroyo/Hart

Indiana:
out: Troy Murphy, future 2nd, cash
in: Keyon Dooling, Jarron Collins, JJ Redick

Redick might be able to flourish under JOB's system. Dooling also gives them an emergengy option at PG at Tinsley's absence. The most important factor is that they get out of Murphy's contract.

Rotation:
Foster/Harrison
JO/Diogu/Williams
Granger/Dunleavy
Dunleavy/Daniels/Redick
(Tinsley)/Dooling/Daniels

Utah
out: Jarron Collins, Jason Hart
in: Brian Cook, Adonal Foyle, cash from IND

With AK as their secondary playmaker, and Miles able to take on the backup PG role, Hart is definitely expendable. Collins is trash, so Foyle is definitely a big upgrade for them at backup C, especially with Foyle's defense and shot-blocking. Foyle will allow Fesenko to learn the ropes for another season without much pressure to perform immediately. Brian Cook's contract costs only about $1.5M more than Hart and Collins combined over the course of the contracts, and they do get cash from Indy to cover that cost, so it shouldn't be a financial burden for them really. Besides, Cook may be able to have a role here with his shooting abilities and being able to reunite with former Illini Deron Williams.

Rotation:
Okur/Foyle/Fes
Boozer/Millsap/Cook
AK/Millsap/Harpring
Brewer/Korver
DWill/Miles/Price

Minnesota
out: Marko Jaric, Ryan Gomes
in: 2008 1st from ORL, Tony Battie

Battie is out for the season, but he'll help protect Al at C when he comes back next season. His contract expires one year earlier than Jaric's. They also get a 1st from ORL.

Rotation:
(Battie)/Al/Ratliff
Smith/Walker
Brewer/Green
McCants/Buckner
Foye/Telfair

Just because a few jazz fans want us to have Miles as the backup to Deron doesnt mean it'll happen. Cook doesnt really do anything fro us and isn't there some clause that a player cant be traded twice in the same season?

Cook cannot be traded in a package with other players until Jan 20. And he can traded before that if he's not combined with others.

MIN probably does this too. Since its on the edge though, it probably indicates you made a fair trade.

Most Wolves fans think that Jaric is useful enough that they don't want to deal him unless a 2-year deal is coming back. Jaric's been pretty good this season, and he plays well with the kids, helping them get to the right spots on the floor. The MIN fans complain that not only do we have to pay Battie for three, but one year we pay him for nothing. However, even though he's averaging about $9 mil/(USABLE) year, MIN can afford a 0-production season better than anyone else. Battie is a useful big, with experience playing next to a dominant PF-C, so he could help Al Jefferson in the future.

Gomes is probably worth a late first. His production lately's been about 14 PPG, 9 RPG, and he can be used inside and out. MIN probably would bring him back, but it clears some money for the guaranteed salaries of others.

I don't know -- MIN probably grits its teeth and says "yes"
