The Official, This Has Been 1 of the Worst Deadlines Thread

Post#1 » by vincecarter4pres » Thu Feb 19, 2009 8:03 pm

All this hype and the biggest deal of the deadline was Larry Hughes going to NY?

What a crappy deadline.

There is still about an hour, figuring there have been deals in the past that "supposedly" were completed before the 3 PM deadline, but not announced till almost 4 PM.

Bah!

Three years in a row. But lets not go too fast here ..

If teams are working on a deal, they can contact David and Stern, and he'll give them some extra time. Sometimes we don't hear about a deal for a few hours after the deadline. POR, CLE, etc sound like they are still working on things.

Its not to late for something big to happen. Technically the trade deadline has passed, but the teams still have 3 or 4 hours to "finalize paper work". Cleveland made that big trade a few hours after the deadline last year.

If the Cavs or Blazers don't make a move, they are the big losers of this trade deadline. You have two contracts that can be moved, there is no way that they couldn't find somebody that could help them win.

Surely, the Miller/Salmons for Nocioni plus other stuff counts for something.

It wasn't that bad. Maybe im biased cause it was all the kings, but the three way with orlando, memphis and houston was solid, the hughes trade was interesting, the chandler trade was intertaining, even though it failed, it was still interesting. I didn't think it was really THAT bad, there definately weren't any blockbusters though.

There was so much hype with this deadline though. RLEC and Wally were the big Cap savers that were supposed to move. Richard Jefferson/Gerald Wallace/Vince Carter/etc. Everyone was rumored to be dealing either preparing for 2010 or trying to load up for a playoff run.

Pretty weak if you ask me, unless something got submitted late though i would think there would be a leak.

Weak for sure. The biggest was def Kings/Bulls. Too bad the Chandler deal didn't go through, Thunder looked like they would be pretty stacked.

I would have loved to see Carter moved.

But Moore/Thomas is my biggest disappointment.

Ummm, don't forget Von Wafer for Taurean Green from last year... another blockbuster. :)

I think the reason many think this is the worst trade deadline ever is that there was so much hype, so many rumors, so many big names were supposed to be moving, teams were looking to dump salaries and it was a "buyers" market.

I am a huge Blazer fan and I am so F ing frustrated / disappointed / pissed / relieved (no more rumors to follow)... We have the RLEC and a collection of nice young talent and we could not swing one single move that improved our team???

This happens every year. Tons of smoke and no fire. And like everyone outside of Cleveland Portland have been saying all year, these expirings were not as valuable as Cav and Blazer fans thought.

The Kings tried to trade Kenny Thomas for a useless guy with 2 years remaining on his contract and Nate Robinson but it fell through.

^Which is a good thing because we traded 4 useless guys and got back Larry Hughes and Chris Wilcox without having to give up Nate Robinson!

That sure beats Kenny Thomas.

I thought ESPN was based in CT somewhere... seems they are the ones that have been fanning the certain NBA teams are hemmoraging money flames and that teams are looking to dump salary. I guess I just bought into it...

There was SO MUCH extra hype this year though, it was unreal.

Usually there is some sort of truth to at least a couple of the rumors.

Bah!

It wasn't necessarily a terrible deadline, it was just extremely disappointing when compared to the crazy rumors in the week leading up to it.
