Hou - NYK (Knicks get zero salary 2010)

Post#1 » by Xman » Fri Jul 3, 2009 6:53 pm

Looks like NYK have 2 bad contracts - which happen to be the only two they are locked into next year.

Curry: 10.5, 11.2
Jeffries:6.5, 6.9

Tmac has the wonderful expiring contract: 23.2
Houston also has some expendable low throw in expiring contracts if needed: 3.5, 2, .8

Making 2 assumptions here - that Yao is done and Hou is stuck with his 17.7 salary in 2011. As of now, Hou has no salary past 2011 (both Curry and Jeffries would also expire in 2011).

If NY can get that low, they could suck up two max players and good bit players (maybe 3 max players?).

So, the question is what can NYK give up that makes it worthwhile to Houston to suck up their salary (and possibly cost them a shot at Bosh).

Start with rookie Jordan HIll
Add a #1 draft choice: negoatiate level of protection.
D. Gallinari 3.0, then tm options
C. Wilson 1.2, then tm options

Effect:
NYK gets a clear salary cap ath the cost of the few young talented players it has.
Hou loses a shot at the free agent class of 2010.
Hou gets:
the option of clearing its cap in 2011.
three players with potential in Hill, Gallinari and Wilson.

Houston could later trade any of the players recieved along with Battier, etc. Might make it worthwhile.

Thoughts?

The Rockets are looking at the ability to sign a Max FA in 2010 as well. This would annihilate those chances, for Curry and Jeffries.

NO!

Absolutely not. Not a chance in hell. No way, no how. Not going to happen.

In summary: NO.

That is why I mentioned it could cost Hou Bosh.

But, add Bosh in to replace Tmac and Yao, result is Hou still is short on talent.

Current Roster: Yao and Tmac on IR
Brooks, Lowry
B. Barry, Wafer (gone FA?), rookie Ch. Budinger, rookie Jermaine Taylor
Battier. Ariza, Cook, White
Scola, Hayes, Landry
Dorsey

Sub in Bosh at year end - who would have to play center and would suck up all FA cash:
Brooks, Lowry
B. Barry, Wafer (gone FA?), rookie Ch. Budinger, rookie Jermaine Taylor
Battier. Ariza, Cook, White
Scola, Hayes, Landry
Bosh, Dorsey

Not sure if that is enough.

If we do the deal:
Current Roster: Yao on IR
Brooks, Lowry
B. Barry, Wafer (gone FA?), rookie Ch. Budinger, rookie Jermaine Taylor, Ch. Wilson
Battier. Ariza, Cook, White, Jeffries, Gallinger
Scola, Hayes, Landry, Rookie Hill
Curry, Dorsey

It would be sweet it Bosh took his one year option and was available the next year along with Roy, Aldridge, etc.

I just think the infusion of young talent would offset one max player one year (we get one in 2011 if we want him)

NO. Your argument is not a good one. If given the choice between signing Bosh or getting Curry/Jeffries for the same price, the Rox would choose Bosh 11 times out of 10.

For the last time, NO!

Utah says hell yes.

whatever team you just left NYK with means they can trade John Wall for some serious talent when they land the #1 pick.

Even if the Rockets added their 2010 unprotected first rounder, their 2011 unprotected first rounder, their 2012 unprotected first rounder, their 2013 unprotected first rounder and their 2014 unprotected firstrounder this would be a CLEAR NO from NY. There is no one on the Rockets worth giving up Chandler,Hill or Gallo---ABSOLUTELY NO ONE. With Artest gone and Yao done the Rockets can have fun in the lottery for the next 5years.No need to help them out.

Knicks will be under the cap to the tune of $20 million or so in 2010, unless they dump Curry and Jared, then they get even more. There is no need to get rid of Gallo, Hill AND Chandler (3 pieces for the future) to totally gut space. And you also want the Knicks to throw in a first rounder?

Explain why NY does this. WHY?

Was that actually a serious trade proposal? That makes absolutely no sense for either team.

Highlights of this thread:

Chandler Wilson being his real name?

Gallinger.... Uhmm... Gallinari...?

The OP clearly having never watched the Knicks last season. Then you'd know Wilson is just as good, if not better, than Ariza (I can say better because Chandler has an offensive game, while also being solid on D). Gallinari showing he has a brilliant shooting stroke, capable of defending to a decent standard (or at least putting the effort in).

While its obvious the OP has never watched the Knicks before and has no idea how much he is undervaluing the knicks prospects...It's amazing that other posters actually followed up his post by emphatically rejecting the trade.
