It does indeed matter what Memphis accepted for him. That's the most recent indicator of his value, and he hasn't done anything extraordinary since then. His value is nowhere near Bosh's. Just as What Al Jefferson and Devin Harris were traded for peg their values (a future Hall of Famer and one of the two best PGs of the past 15 years, respectively). Those are no brainers for me.

Re: Realgm's Top 25 most valuable players: vote for #7
If you want to look at like that, Memphis got a big time prospect big man(Marc Gasol), 2 1st round picks, maximum salary relief, both long term and instant at the time of the trade and a third 1st round pick(Javaris Crittenton, who was re-traded for that pick).
Although the deal is still skewed, it just isn't as bad as people are making it out to be.
I mean Gasol would have almost definitely been a top 10 lotto pick had he been in last year's draft, or any draft for that matter.
Throw in the max salary relief and 3 1st round picks, and really, is it a bad deal for Memphis?

What's the status of Jefferson's knee?
There's no denying his ability, but I seriously question putting a guy off that major of an injury in the top 10 or 12. Or maybe the rehab's going a lot better than I thought.
If healthy, he's a no doubt top 10-12 in value, but with that injury, I have a hard time putting him over under 27 all-stars such as Harris and Tony Parker.

Marc Gasol was a second round pick who, at the time, hadn't seen the NBA court. The the LAL firsts in that deal were practically 2nds.
There is no doubt Gasol would have been a top 10 pick last year. Top 5. But we're going to be playing this game a while before we get to Tyreke Evans, so I don't think that says very much. What has Gasol done in the last 18 months to increase his value substantially from when he was in Memphis?

After what Rose did in the playoffs, I'm pretty convinced he will be a star. Duncan is old, I love him, but he's old, same with Dirk. They are at the end of their careers, still stars, but in 3 years, would you rather have Derrick Rose or Tim Duncan?
I still think Melo is overrated and shouldn't even be on this list yet. He stepped up a lot more this year though, but his defense was still awful whenever I watched.
