Toronto/Memphis- Thabeet to Toronto

Post#1 » by Raptor04 » Fri Aug 28, 2009 9:54 pm

Ok, I expect some people to laugh at this trade, but stay with me through my whole post...

Let's say a guy like Thabeet plays under his "bust" title (and agreed this isn't fair to evaluate over half a season) but let's just say Memphis isn't too sold on keeping him around. They can manage with Gasol and Haddadi and they feel moving him would be the best. Now, assume Belinelli and Johnson, 2 players who could break out this season (both are in their early 20s, have great potential if given the opportunity).

Now, would this trade be anywhere near plausible?:

Toronto Trades: Amir Johnson, Marco Belinelli, 2011 1st unprotected
Toronto Receives: Hasheem Thabeet

Memphis Trades: Hasheem Thabeet
Memphis Receives: Amir Johnson, Marco Belinelli, 2011 1st unprotected

I know it's pretty laughable right now because Belinelli and Johnson are both raw. If not this, what would it take for Toronto to propose a trade that Memphis would consider (if Bosh, Bargnani, Calderon, Turkoglu are untouchable). I just think the idea of getting Thabeet would be great if he worked alongside a Bosh or Bargnani, with his size and defense it could be a great pairing.

I don't think Thabeet is going to be all that good, but I don't see the Grizzlies trading him for anything less than Bosh or Bargnani (Thabeet combined with other players) after picking him 2nd.

Even if he is dissapointing next year, he's a project, they won't dump him.

If Amir Johnson or Marco Belinelli had anywhere near that value do you think you would've got them for what you did?

Agreed ... This is terrible for Memphis. As much as people are calling Thabeet a bust right now, who knows the dude was pick #2 and was considered top 3 guranteed this year. Is there a lot of risk to him? Yeah. The only way to get Thabeet from Memphis is for Bosh or Bargnani.

It would take three years of abject failure for Memphis to consider parting with him for this little. And we're still awaiting game number one.

Staying with your hypothetical train of thought. Why would Toronto want to make this trade if both their players have breakout seasons and Thabeet turns out to be a bust.

LMFAO.

While you're at it, as dumb as Chris Wallace can get, he'll counter a Bargs for Haddadi, 2012 unprotected 1st and cash.

Other than few exceptions, and this isn't the one, I have to agree with this.

If Memphis were inclined to trade Thabeet, do you really ****ing think they do it for this package?
