POR/GS/CHA - Jack, Diaw, and Outlaw

Post#1 » by shamelessblazer » Mon Nov 9, 2009 10:27 am

POR Out: Blake/Outlaw
POR In: Diaw

Portland takes on quite a bit of salary but adds a player that can help consolidate their rotation greatly while helping to provide a very well balanced and heady presence on the court. A great passer, good in the open court, decent mid-range shooter, and good post defender that will help with floor spacing and can run the floor well. With a PG like Miller Diaw will be greatly utilized in a tight Portland rotation with improved defense and a more dangerous offensive attack. But is it worth the 18 million on the next two years for a backup? They also get Bayless a little burn with this move and get to find out what he could turn out to be.

Miller/Bayless
Roy/Fernandez
Webster/Batum/Cunningham
Aldridge/Diaw/Howard
Oden/Pryzbilla

(w/Batum out most of this year)

GS Out: Jackson
GS In: Diop/Outlaw

Golden State dumps quite a bit of salary, and adds a player who can put up the points (and shots), perfect for Nellie-ball in Outlaw, and he's on an expiring. Diop is likely cap fodder and they have to deal with his salary for a couple of years at a little more than half the cost of Jackson.

CHA Out: Diaw, Diop
CHA In: Jackson, Blake

Charlotte saves a little money, and adds a bigtime competitor and defender in Jackson. They'd have a nasty defensive presence with Wallance and Jackson, and could be a very tough (physically) team to deal with, losing the somewhat passive Diaw. Blake is a PG that LB would like a lot as he stays somewhat out of the way, is a great shooter, and spaces the floor well.

Talent / fit wise its good for Portland. But I would have to pass. Bayless isn't ready for big minutes at the PG spot, and the 3 guard starting rotation has looked really good so far (although only 2 games). If Blake were cut and returned, then yes
Thank you for all the memories BRoy. You were a class act and brought hope to an entire region for 5 years. You will be missed.

No way for the Warriors. Diop is almost as expensive as Jackson and WAY less useful.

Diop is a 4 yr who costs about 70% of what Jackson costs. Diop + Outlaw is more $ now..then Outlaw likely walks. With Maggette, Azu, Randolph, Wright at F, Outlaw is useful but not so much GSW is gonna give him big minutes or big $. So.....it ain't as good as a pure dump of Jack for expiring junk, or a plan C desperation deal where GSW has Nazr for 2 yr. GSW should have some interest in Diaw, but not in Diop. Diaw would at least have a rotation role, while Diop is a WAY too expensive #3 center.

Strategically...it is foolish for GSW to screw their future and give the Blazers a lift too. As a team that has to be thinking their young core can make them relevant for a number of years, a bit in the future, GSW has to see the young Blazers as the team best set up to rule the West. The spot the Blazer's have yet to really fill is SF.
CENSORED... No comment.

Diop's definitely a deal kill for the Warriors as far as I'm concerned.
