Mobley for Harpring (expiring insured for expirnig insured)

Post#1 » by shagadelic45 » Sun Dec 27, 2009 5:15 pm

NY TRADES: Cutino Mobley, sweetener ($9.5 million)

OKC TRADES: Matt Harpring ($6.5 million)

each player is injured, expiring and their contracts are covered by insurance (80% each, I believe). the Thunder still have around $3 million in cap space to absorb the exact difference in salaries. The Knicks save a good chunk of money including the lux tax and the Thunder get some sweetener (future pick, cash) for nothing

The Knicks need to add to their talent base and/or clear future cap. They are hardly a cash-poor team, and using any assets to save a few million dollars this season by swapping injured guy for injured guy is not a good idea.

$7 million in savings for a future second rounder isn't too bad...no matter who you are

NY doesnt need to do it. They do not need to save money this year to lose players next year as they have very few under contract and can use all the second round picks they can get to fill out the roster.
