I don't think the Knicks see it that way, otherwise why did they just trade for Calderon? They gave an ok center on an expiring for the right to pay 22 mil to Calderon over 3 years. That tells something. The Knicks definitely see Calderon as their starter for the next few years. Prigioni is a fine backup.
Maybe they'd like Cole as an insurance option. Calderon and Prigioni are both likely to miss some games. But I always got a feeling that the Knicks drastically overrate Shumpert, so it would be a bit surprising if they trade Shumpert for someone they don't see as a starter and maybe not even the main backup.
