Re: Ford:Brand on the Block; Broussard Update Pg 3
The other thing to consider when deciding if you would rather have the 2nd pick or Marion to go along with Brand and Wade is the age factor. Keeping Marion would mean the core of our team is currently in their prime, gearing us for a title run. By securing a 19-year old rookie, our long term window for success would be greater, but our chances of winning a title in the next 2-3 years is smaller. When Beasley hits his prime, Brand would be out of his and Wade would be around 30. While Beasley has more potential than Marion, I see Riley trading the pick first because he is always looking to win now.
Also, anyone consider the possibility of making the Memphis trade as well as Marion-for-Brand? It would leave us pretty stacked across the board and with a lot more flexibility. I could see us running with the below lineup, or possibly making yet another deal where we send #5 for a veteran PG.
Mayo/Lowry
Wade/Cook
Miller/Wright
Brand/Haslem
Zo/MLE

What's this love affair with Brand? He is a good player, but if you draft Beasley who will play SF? I know Beasley won't be effective as SF as he would be as a PF in the league. If they try to make him a SF, he would be like the Rasheed experiment in Portland when they try to make Wallace a SF. The Heat should draft Beasley, try to sign Marion to an extension that works for him and the team, trade Haslim to Portland for the number 13 pick and Jack since Portland is looking to trade that pick, then try to send Smush 1 year contract along with Blount and a future 1st round pick for TJ Ford. Draft DeAndre or Hibbert and see where this team ends up for next year.

Thabeet is a stiff.
Sheldon is the closest thing to Ben Wallace out there.
Rondo, Dude is waaaaayyyy overrated.

Why can't we just keep Beasley? Why is that so hard?
Yay we'll rent Brand for 2 - 3 years, then what?
UGH, I hate this trade talk.

Re: Rumor: Trade with Clippers
To anyone asking why we trade our pick for Brand when we can just get him in FA next year, it's obvious. Exceptions.
Keep Beasley and Marion, get Brand next year. Total players acquired:
Michael Beasley
Elton Brand
C - Blount / ?
PF - Brand / Haslem
SF - Beasley / ?
SG - Wade / Cook
PG - Banks / ?
Trand Beasley and Marion for Brand and #7 pick. Total players acquired:
Elton Brand
#7 pick
08 MLE
09 MLE
08 or 09 LLE
Dorell Wright (able to extend)
C - Lopez / Diop
PF - Brand / Haslem
SF - Pietrus / Wright
SG - Wade / Cook
PG - 09 MLE / Banks
It does fill out our team a lot better.

Re: Rumor: Trade with Clippers
I hate the thought of trading Beasley (if we do get him).
BUT I like the fact that people are allowed to start their own individual threads to talk about trades instead of having to go to the "random trade proposal" thread.
C'mon mods, i've had some quality posts be buried under page 34 of the xyz thread. The talk here is sooo dull cuz noone wants to dig through 54 pages to read a thought and noone wants to look through 54 pages to see someones reply to their thought.

He didn't propose a trade. He just said that he had a friend who apparently is a "source," that says we're trying to get Brand here.
That's totally different than saying, "What about Blount and #2 for LeBron?"

No saying "what about Blount and #2 for Lebron" is wack.
BUT
if a person says
bla bla bla suggests this trade and gives a link....what's so wrong with keeping that trade it's own individual thread?

We'd have 50-60 individual threads of trade ideas, and then everyone would feel the need to make a new thread for every new trade idea they had.
I think keeping all trade ideas in one thread is a good idea, unless there is an article that gives us information on a possible trade. Then that can have its own thread to discuss our opinion on it and to make variations of that particular deal.

Re: Rumor: Trade with Clippers
Guys, I know IndoorOutdoor pretty well and I can vouch for him. He does have some connections and has been able to call things in the past. No, he's not 100% accurate, but he's worth listening to.
It makes sense, on top of it all. We know that Riley loves Brand. We know that their have been rumblings that Riley does not love Beasley. Then, this morning, this article gets posted on ESPN.
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/draft2008 ... id=3459696
Face it, us trading down and trying to acquire Brand is a very real possibility. The question I have is what will the filler be and are we trying to get the 7th pick as well?
One thing is for sure though, we are finding out this pick's maximum value. That cannot be considered a bad thing.

I agree there.
I am not going to lie: I would be disappointed (amazingly) if we ended up making some sort of #2 and Marion for Elton Brand and #7 deal -- assuming it is Beasley who drops to us at #2. It isn't terrible by any stretch, and it makes Miami matter again immediately. But I am just not crazy about anyone available at 7. (I absolutely detest the idea of choosing Love or either Lopez.) Also, I am not convinced Elton Brand puts Miami over the top. And the fact we'd be financially strapped from here on out makes me want to vomit.
I just prefer the promise Beasley would bring and the financial flexibility we'd have either next season or the following season.
The one rumor on this board that someone said they heard on ESPN that I would like a lot (assuming it was Rose who fell to us) was where Miami would deal #2 and Blount for Wilcox and #4 and then turn around and send #4, Marion, and Banks to the Clippers for Brand and Maggette. (It was something like this, and would only work if Mayo was on board at #4.)
Miami, of course, would be financially strangled forever, again, but our lineup would be:
Wilcox/Mourning
Brand/Haslem
Maggette/Wright?
Wade/Cook
MLE/LLE

I can't agree with you on those deals, SA37. I don't like that lineup.
Other than that, I do agree. Take Beasley and run...

Re: Rumor: Trade with Clippers
here's what i think will happen, i think riley wants mayo OR bayless OR brand and an asse
1. miami takes beasley at # 2...we celebrate, we want to keep him
2. minn takes mayo
3. seattle takes bayless and basically cons us into trading beasley, blount for wilcox, # 4, # 24
4. miami takes bayless at 4
5. miami offers up marion, banks, # 4 to lac for brand, maggs...LAC either accepts or rejects...if LAC accepts we leave with a trio of wade, maggs, brand
IF LAC rejects (likely), we leave w/ wilcox, haslem, marion, wade, bayless w/ the hope of signing brand/boozer next season
that my friends is riley's plan in a nutshell IMO
my plan: take beasley and run
heat will take a PR hit

Re: Rumor: Trade with Clippers
I just don't see the reason for trading down the pick if all we're able to do is get cap space (blount #2 to Sonics), or even trading down for average talent (#2 for Miller #4).
We have to understand something, we're getting a superstar player with the #2 pick, a player that is incredibly difficult to acquire in today's nba. Why the heck are people talking about trading?
Let me try to put things in perspective:
Beasley has the potential of becoming a player with a good chance of having a talent level similar to Chris Bosh's level or even higher (i'm not saying his game is similar to bosh's, but bosh is a guaranteed all-star and both guys are hard to find bigs.)
Now if you were a GM and Chris Bosh was on your team and someone offered you a trade of average talent for him, such as Miller and Ben Gordon (a player whose game is similar to Mayo's), would you take it?
I wouldn't. Average talent does not win championships. You need great talent. Average talent, even above average talent, can play a role in helping you win a championship (posey, bowen), but they at best can only bring your lineup consistency, defense, and clutch shooting. They can't win games on their own.
So, with that said, which squad would you rather have on your team playing with Wade, Mike Miller and Ben Gordon, or Chris Bosh. The answer is clear and so is the draft pick we must make and keep.
____________________________________________________________________________________________
As for this talk about Brand coming to the team for the #2 or even for Marion, no thanks. If the Heat get Rose they will be in need of a post up presence, but if they get Beasley, they will be in need of a PG, a C, and a SF if Marion is traded or leaves. The Heat do not need a PF with injury problems and a mega contract who would be signed until he was 34-35. They could use that money and the trade bait they posses instead to fill in their positions of need and make this team a DYNASTY.

If we do the two deals and get Brand, the #7, the #24 and Wilcox...that would be a sick sick deal.
Wilcox
Brand
Magette
Wade
Bayless
Draft Hibbert with the #24 and let Zo groom him.

Just take the mother#$%@ pick Riley!!!! If you really want Brand that much get him the following offseason when Marion's contract expires at the same time
Even Ira is fed up with Riley

Even Ira is fed up with Riley
OK, this officially all is getting to be a bit much.
Take Michael Beasley and call it a day.
Apparently, Pat Riley can't keep it simple. Fine, he's paid plenty to make phone calls and watch workouts. No issue there.
The only issue would be this: Taking someone other than Beasley at No. 2 in Thursday's NBA Draft.
That would be borderline incompetent. Expand the draft, if he must. Round out the lineup by trading down, if short-term renewal is viewed as the more significant goal.
But with all the (seeming) infatuation over O.J. Mayo, and perhaps new (seemingly) infatuation with Jerry Bayless, you don't simply bypass the most talented player in the draft, especially when the goal is never to be at No. 2 again.
The best of all worlds is acquiring a second lottery pick, with Shawn Marion as the bait. That door opened Tuesday. It is not a trap door.
Any other words from Commissioner David Stern beyond, "With the second selection in the 2008 NBA Draft, the Miami Heat selects Michael Beasley from Kansas State," would be a travesty, unless the name "Derrick Rose" is substituted courtesy of the Bulls.
Otherwise, you might as well go click on ESPN's draft broadcast and, perhaps, click on the Heat's long-term future.
