I've been thinking about that Artest @ power forward option for awhile now. It would really be nice to see him matched up with David West! My only hang up with giving Spo more small ball options, would be does he have the courage to finally sit Haslem? Does he have the vision to realize that if we lose Miller we have to play JJ more? I don't like Shane at backup 3 over a pure shooter & I'm almost certain that's what would happen.

If Ron Artest wasn't crazy, I would consider him as a backup PF but he is and I wouldn't risk the lockerroom for that guy.

This off-season is about finding a young player to step up next year and a BIG. NEXT SEASON IS SCARY!

Ray Allen: Possible retirment
Shane Battier: Possible retirment
MM/Joel: Amnesty possiblity
Mario: Free Agent
Cole: Restricted FA
Bosh/Bron/Wade: Opt out clause

Even If BIG 3 return, 3 of our key role players could be moving or retiring.

Hope we re-sign Andersen and pick up either Oden or Dalembert. Artest wouldn't be a bad option at back up PF, but then again he has his own issues...but we will see.

I am confident that the Big 3 will re-sign in a way that will allow us to amass some young talent with our role players pretty much guaranteed to move on after this season or so.

Couldn't we re-sign Rio going over the cap because of his Bird Rights?

I'm not a cap expert so I may be saying something way off!

Artest can't shoot. Prefer take some summer league dude who can shoot and play some defense over Artest

Ron Artest is everything the Heat do not want in their locker room.

I'm definitely feeling u on the crazy factor and I'm totally on board with u about needing to get younger! The thing about Miami though is u already know we won't play a young guy ahead of a vet. Cole could be further along if we put more stock in talented youth. So it's going to be extremely important that we use our new D-League venture to develop the young talent that we value. Point guard, shooting guard and Center are all major needs moving forward. I think Pat knows that fully, which is why I believe that we have two SL teams this year.

I still see the Heat reserving their open spots for vets like Odom, Artest & Dalembert first and foremost for this season. I think it's championship or bust for this season just like last season.

SAS is on espn ny radio talking about how miami may be able to make enough cap space to make a run at melo to pair him up with lebron. Lol wtf, only way that is possible is if the big 3 take major pay cut or moving bosh. This guy is going crazy with thought of melo leaving, but the thought of lebron teaming up with melo would be absolutely deadly.

Is that even realistically possible? Next offseason of course.

i mean if we do not resign the players that are going to be free agents i can see it. assume miller and anthony are traded as expiring contracts. rio is not resigned. jj, rashard, ray, battier, birdman contracts are all up. varnados contract is up. haslem does not use his player option and then the big 3 opt out.

in this situation norris cole would be the only player still on contract. is that how its gonna happen? its not out of the question that this is a possibility that going into 2014-2015 norris will be the only contract we have (maybe ellisburg and riley planned it that way).

miami would have basically a clean slate to work with. wade and bosh both get KG type contracts. lebron gets 17 per year. in theory we could probably afford melo if hes willing to take a huge cut.

this is all highly unrealistic though but you never know

If most of our guys end up getting pay cuts, then we will eventually have another super star on this. It all depends on the budget, let the front office handle the math.

We won't be able to bring in a guy like Melo under the cap, but if the big 3 take big enough paycuts we could bring a quality big man. that's what we really need. PG is the easiest position the fill for cheap. We'll to create some cap space to add a good bigman.

No, we won't get a superstar. not possible.

THe best best case scenario we clear enough space to bring in a good bigman that could take a big step forwaed with us. Someone like Larry Sanders for example. And that's if we're lucky, the big 3 take another bigger paycut, and we get rid of almost everyone (Miller + Joel + UD) without taking on other contracts.

Or we could just pray Oden works out.

Disagree. Cole has developed as well as you could possibly imagine a rookie pg coming off the bench. He's gotten significant minutes his first two years i dont know what more you could ask for.

Well if you believe the big 3 had planned on teaming up prior to the summer of 2010, the rumor is that it was originally supposed to be a big 4, with that 4th guy being Carmelo. Take that however you want it moving forward to next summer.

Although Cole has gotten waaaaaay more run than any young player during the Heat's Championship runs outside of Dwyane Wade he could've stolen a lot more minutes from Chalmers. He could be a much better passer/playmaker IMO.

Did you forget Udonis Haslem and Mario Chalmers, both of whom averaged more minutes than Cole when they were young? Haslem was in his second year when he became a starter next to Shaq, and Rio was in his third season when the Big 3 came together. They haven't had issues getting minutes...

Listening to Shane Battier speak, it sounds like unless we win again, the dude is retiring. He said, his ability is there but his heart to get up every day is leaving. Sounds like a guy who is ready to walk away. This is another reason why you can't amnesty MM as he is our backup encase Ray, Shane leave next year.

Mario would be considered a vet by his 3rd season and he had his spot taken by Arroyo and Bibby in '10-'11. Haslem played over seas first and still wasn't young in the respect we'll need to get guys. Now if you're saying the Heat will be getting young vets in, then that's different. But the way the Heat play young guys they actually draft is normally along the lines of not all during their Championship runs.

And that's probably the case for most vets. With the Big 3 eating up most the cap Riley is going to have to rely on a market of ever growing free agents that are sitting home. I just looked at Ira's latest list of unaffiliated free agents and there were more than a few guys I would to have off that list. There's a young fella named Trey Thompkins who would be an excellent stretch 4 for us moving forward. The man can really shoot for his size.
