Mid-Season Trade dealine

Post#1 » by Wolfy1983 » Thu Jul 31, 2014 11:40 am

Do you guys see us trying to make any moves to get back into contention in the East or do you see the front office holding out for 2016?

If something becomes available that would let us upgrade our roster and contend this season, Riley will pull the trigger.

This. The goal is obviously 2016, but if something becomes available at any point before then that will make us a legit championship contender, then Riley will pull the trigger. Absolutely. He was all in for 2010 for example, and when Lamar Odom become available he tried to nab him (although that wouldn't have put a major damper on the big plans for the Big 3, but it could have hindered our shot at say, Mike Miller &/or UD).

Luol Deng has an easily tradeable contract, and if one or two of our young guys prove to be an asset (Cole, Napier, Ennis, Hamilton, etc.) then we'd be in the trade market if someone big becomes available.

Yes Riley will be looking to make a move around trading deadline this season. As Riley Confirmed today, Shabazz Napier, McRoberts and Danny Granger were part of a plan to build around Lebron. Now the plan is to build around Bosh, so going forward the Heat will be making moves to Maximize the talents of Bosh. It will be interesting to see who they will target, but we would all think its going to be a lot of center and point guards being rumored to the Heat.

I don't think Riley does any trade unless it's for a franchise player...

right now our team is very deep, it's no longer a one man show.. we're going to be playing a lot more team basketball, swinging the ball around more often.. before we were depending on Lebron to create for us, which is nothing against Lebron it got us 4 trips to the Finals but now we'll get to see Bosh and Wade use their talents more and we added players like McRoberts that has passing skills as well and Deng who has always been a team player..

if Granger goes back to form... that contract is the jackpot..

I can see us dumping Cole somehow.

Shabazz for the next 2 years is being paid 2.4mil(1.2Mil, 1.2mil), Cole will be paid 2mil this year, 3mil next year (last year qualifying option, 5mil combined next 2 years). We got shabazz locked up for cheap basically as a back up.

I don't expect him to be just dumped, maybe he'd be moved if they get an upgrade. Cole was no.4 in total minutes last year, and I expect his minutes to just go up. Shabazz is a rookie, he can't be expected to absorb that role on a team that's looking to win.

It's not a one man show, but I'd say last year's team was deeper. Of course, if Granger goes back to being good, it's different, but that's a long shot.

I think this current team has 7 players who are legit reliable 10 man rotation players on a playoff team. Granger is a question mark, Haslem should be an 11th or 12th man at this point, Napier and Ennis are rookies and maybe they deliver, or maybe not.

Hopefully Riley can still find 2-3 more rotation players on minimum contracts when the dust settles and other teams have finished using their midlevels.

I don't foresee any trades that early. Maybe at the trade deadline, but not in December. In any case, I wouldn't expect any significant trades because we have little in the way of young talent, expiring contracts, cap space, or draft picks.

I honestly pray Nappier becomes a solid starter and we can get rid of Chalmers. That would be my ideal scenario.

Napier

When Napier takes a nap, he becomes Nappier.

Obvious.

I'm sorry ... where exactly is the depth? Swapping Danny Granger & James Ennis for Ray Allen & Michael Beasley doesn't make us any deeper as far as I'm concerned.
