Odom was 3 years older than Beasley currently is (turned 21 in January). Maturity has and will be Beasley's obstacle to overcome with whatever team he lands on.

Agreed. And there are plenty of folks who question whether he'll ever mature to the point where he'll reach his potential or at least be a consistently productive player. Given how unsuccessful the Heat's attempts thus far to trade him have been, I'd be willing to wager that's the prevailing sentiment around the league.

That wasn't an option and it wouldn't have made any sense. It's not like the guy was a horrible person. Villanueva was never a bad locker room guy. He just didn't fit what the team needed and his motivational issues and defensive problems were issues that harmed the team. But if you couldn't trade him, you might as well try to see if it can work with him while you have him. For a brief moment that season it did.

I'm not advocating that we should have cut CV, just noting that we didn't give him up for cash or just to get rid of him----despite CBQ's calls for the contrary :D

In fact, I think our treatment of CV worked out perfectly. We got some production out of him for a season, showed our franchise and fanbase that we were wholely committed to winning, and the culture change brought us to where we are today.

The point that CV is a better person than Beasley is probably the biggest distinction between those two in terms of how we would approach them. Tweeting at halftime is a far cry from being a suicide risk with drug problems...

Anyone know the Heat's cap situation right now?

If that extra few million is the difference between a max free agent or a lesser free agent, that matters a lot. If that's the case then they might not be as resolutely done with Beasley as they are just desperate for that extra money.

Then again, if that's true, then there should be more teams with cap room ready to take him. Maybe the Nets are trying to save ever cent for a max free agent, but there have to be other teams with cap room who aren't deluded by such ambitions.

I remember reading that Riley had doubts about Beasley right after he picked him. Like a few days after.

I don't see where Odom was so down and out when Riley signed him. Didn't he sign him to a 12m/yr contract? That's not the contract you give a reclamation project, even when he's the otherworldly talent that is Lamar Odom (not sarcastic -- I don't know if there are 20 players in the history of the league with more talent than Odom).

Beasley just needs to get the heck out of Miami... he's made several comments about his lack of desire there because of his situation with his role. He is just not a good fit there. Its D Wades team and thats that. Beasley doesnt like being part of "Wades" team, that is evident.

Put Beasley on the Bucks for a moment, he all the sudden gets treated the same exact way as EVERY player does, no more someone gets away with murder and he gets scolded for missing 1 assignment. Everyone gets scolded for those missed assignments. Skiles can get to Beasley and make him feel like he is every bit part of the team as anyone else. IMO, thats stopping Beasley from becoming a solid player.
And I Wonder..

Even worse than that, I remember him professing doubts right after he picked him, shifting the decision to his scouts who said they just couldn't afford to pass on him...

Beasley or no Beasley, I would use Delfino in the same manner for another team looking to get farther under the cap if more situations like this arise and if the available piece adds value to our situation.

There was a lot of uncertainty in the run up to the draft.

EDIT: And then you have this stuff out of Miami from February.

The package the Heat offered was limited because they wanted to keep Beasley, the inconsistent but talented second-year pro who was the overall No. 2 draft pick in 2008.

“We took him off the board,” Riley said. “We feel like Michael is going to be a core component in this team for years to come. He just has too much of an upside. You see how he’s growing every day. I see him down the road two or three years from now as a 25 and 10 guy every single night.”

Who is this Beasley guy?

I only know a guy named Tito on the Heat. Now.. if we are talking about Tito, I wouldnt give anything up for Tito. Why?

Tito has been nothing but a cancer for every team he has been on. Both College and Pro. Tito requires 24/7 babysitting and is a whiner as well as an underachiever. Tito loafs because Tito got paid. I would not help the Heat out by trading for Tito. They hitched their wagon with him, let some other team trade away a NG deal for Tito and ride the bipolar roller coaster that is Tito.

Tito is not a John Hammond or Scott Skiles type of player.

Good to know, Dooling would make a good addition to this team when the Nets cut him.

Beas would be interesting as a sixth man if Salmons stayed, but to lose Salmons and Delf, end up with a PF in the draft, and add Beas? I don't know. Maybe he would work on the floor with Ersan, but we'd have to add a 2 that can shoot the three.

Beasley really puzzles me. I don't watch college ball so I have no idea how a guy who looks like a shorter CV went #2 in the draft.

He was Rivals #1 national HS recruit and Scout's #4. Then he went to K-State and had an even better season than Kevin Durant the year before. 26/12 on great percentages in a major conference is pretty ridiculous.

I'm genuinely surprised at how much of a non-factor he's been thus far. Even DX had his worst case as Derrick Coleman, a guy who was an automatic 20/10 his first five seasons in the league.

I really think he's simply in need of a change of scenery.

I'm kind of baffled by his lack of production too. He looked super skilled and athletic at kstate.

I wouldn't be upset if the bucks delt delfino for him.

There must be a lot more going on with this guy that the public is aware of. If he didn't have any major issues other than what we're aware of then every team in the league would be working out how to get him.

How is 14/6 not productive. That's pretty impressive to me.

Yep and for most of the college season Beasley was considered to be the top pick. I thought that he would be a pretty good player coming out of college. I think he just needs to get out of Miami, I just can't believe that his value is this low now. This guy is only 21 and if all his issues would be put aside he would easily be a top 5 pick this year.

I wouldn't hesitate on a trade for Beasley in exchange for Delfino and Jackson. It would be one of those deals with a 'wink wink, nudge nudge' arrangement where Delfino is cut and resigns back with the backs on a similar deal. I acknowledge the risks attached with such a deal based on his past, but if you can somehow manage to get the other issues under control, the talent their is phenomenal. Being a small-market team, I think you need to roll the dice just in case it pays off.

Other rumor out there is Anthony Randolph & #6 to Minnesota for #4 & something (#16?/#26?), which comes via Broussard. Hopeful Warrior fans imagine Love as the 'something else' but that doesn't seem very logical for Minnesota -- downgrading the pick and also trading the better player.

As it relates to the Bucks, I still think we needed to give Anthony Randolph 2 dinners in the lead up to the draft. Would have preferred that to sneaking Joe Alexander into the Cousins Center for a secret meeting.
