Ersan Ilyasova tracking thread (Brewhoop article pg 39)
Outside of where our draft pick lands, how Ersan performs and where he ends up is the most interesting (and perhaps most important) thing over the remainder of the season.
In the month of February, these were his numbers:
14 games
30:23 mpg
14.9 ppg
10.9 rpg
1.4 apg
1.0 bpg
1.1 topg
45.1 fg%
37.0 3fg%
82.4 ft%
Questions:
1 - What would it take for you to trade him?
2 - Do you think he's traded?
3 - If he's not traded, do you let him walk or re-sign him
4 - If you re-sign him, what do you think is a reasonable contract
5 - Would you be comfortable with him as a long term solution at PF

1 - What would it take for you to trade him?
a 16-20 1st rounder
2 - Do you think he's traded?
Nope
3 - If he's not traded, do you let him walk or re-sign him
I resign him only IF we amnesty or trade Gooden
4 - If you re-sign him, what do you think is a reasonable contract
somebody will give him the MLE so it would probably take just a bit more from us to keep him
5 - Would you be comfortable with him as a long term solution at PF
Long term as in 2 more years until Leuer breaks thru? idk, Ersan/Moute/Leuer is fairly good and it gives you the opportunity to play Moute as a wing defender off the bench but we would need a dominant wing scorer and Sanders or somebody to be consistently good off the bench at C.

Re: Ersan Ilyasova tracking thread
pretty much same as everybody else
Unless we really plan on resigning him as our long term 4 then you have to trade him. Letting him walk for nothing would be unforgivable.

Re: Ersan Ilyasova tracking thread
How great would it be if Hammond trades Gooden for an expiring, giving us more options at least with Ersan?
As for our current answers to those questions, here's where I'm at:
1 - What would it take for you to trade him?
I'd love a mid-first round pick or a young piece we don't have to commit a lot to to build around. If our franchise is not looking to go down that route, then a Jennings / Ersan combo for Rondo is my favorite scenario we've talked about.
2 - Do you think he's traded?
I bet we could get a 1st of some kind, but all indications are that our franchise is not interested in acquiring picks. If we can't get Rondo, regrettably, I could easily see us gearing up for a Ramon Sessions kind of summer.
3 - If he's not traded, do you let him walk or re-sign him
No interest in breaking the bank for him unless we trade one or both of Moute / Gooden.
4 - If you re-sign him, what do you think is a reasonable contract
I have no interest in giving him a long term deal. 2 years, more money per year, would be great.
5 - Would you be comfortable with him as a long term solution at PF
Depends on who is at center. I don't think he works with Bogut since neither has any semblance of a post game. Hence our desperation Gooden signing.

Re: Ersan Ilyasova tracking thread
One thing I'm not down with determining whether or not to sign him based off of who else we're giving money to at the moment. Having Gooden shouldn't prevent the Bucks from keeping someone young and skilled. We don't have a dozen players worth keeping more than Ersan.

Re: Ersan Ilyasova tracking thread
Gooden's presence isn't likely to impact what Ilyasova receives if the Bucks are interested in re-signing him. I wouldn't consider that to be a concern.

Re: Ersan Ilyasova tracking thread
4 for 20 is pretty good deal. Will he take it? Bucks need to extend him before the deadline if thats the case. Otherwise you risk losing him for nothing.
ISO Cheap

Re: Ersan Ilyasova tracking thread
Ersan already said he'll go to the highest bidder. If 4/20 is the highest bid, he'll take it. We're not getting a discount.

Re: Ersan Ilyasova tracking thread
4/20 is fair if it's the Ersan we've seen pre-February. Where this becomes interesting is if he continues to put up double doubles for the rest of the season.

For me the sample size is too small. Salmons did the samething and look where that took us.DrugBust wrote:4/20 is fair if it's the Ersan we've seen pre-February. Where this becomes interesting is if he continues to put up double doubles for the rest of the season.

It shouldn't, but having 6.687mil Gooden AND 7.37smil Udrih (not to mention 10mil Jax and 4.79mil Moute) on your bench next year really hampers your opportunity to throw 12-15mil at a starting caliber wing FA if we can't get one drafting in the 16-20 range. If we give the MLE to every role player on the team sooner or later we end up with a team full of role players, oh wait we're already there.

We'll never get a star wing to come here via free agency. That shouldn't be part of the concern when re-signing Ersan.
