There are some redeeming qualities about Reflektor (album) now that I've caught some of the leak, but I can guarantee it'll be my #4 Arcade Fire album. I like when bands try a transformation but this one doesn't suit them that well. Here Comes the Nighttime and Porno suck, I don't care what any hipster or Talking Heads fan tries to tell you.

They've reached Radiohead status where they can bang on a garbage can with a stick for an hour and get an 8.5/10 average rating so I'm sure I'll be in the minority.

If you're like me and you have an mp3 collection that spans 15 years plus, iTunes Match might be worth it. I had thousands of mp3s of less than awesome quality. I matched the library to the cloud then replaced everything in it with 256 kbs versions. It was worth the $30.

This was in my library and I'd managed to never hear it before about five minutes ago. Cool cover.

Here Comes The Night Time and Porno are 2 of my favorite tracks along with reflektor and afterlife tbh.

That's interesting. Google play sorta does the same thing. If your mp3 or flac or whatever that you try to upload to their servers for free (20,000 songs) matches a song in their store, they just use that song and transfer it to their library.

Obviously it's to each his own but I really don't get it. They went from any down moment on previous albums being an interesting 3 minute build-up filler song to 5 or 6 6+ minute songs where Win yells darkly over a funky beat on this one. I'd rather hear LCD Soundsystem or Talking Heads if that's what they are going for.

Where is the Sprawl II moment? Half Light II? Well and the Lighthouse, No Cars Go? Wake Up?

I almost always like band transformations from album to alum, but it's Arcade Fire, give me some god damn euphoric choruses. They can change their style and still deliver those. Here Comes the Night Time is a funky bit that I'd rather hear somebody else play.

It's their 2nd best album imo. The production is really good and while there may not be the anthemic or emotional moments like their past albums, I don't think any track is wasted, while I feel like their last two albums had a couple tracks that I could have done without.

Anybody play any instruments? I just picked up the guitar after a 6 year hiatus and I haven't been able to put it down. 8-)

It's all about who you know. Who loans you good rap music. Who loans you interesting rap music. It's definitely out there.

Aw man, post 2000 you gotta give props to the ol' Minneapolis boy Eyedea for his 'The Many Faces of Oliver Hart' album. Self-produced. Self-recorded. All work done by Michael:

And, Busdriver is a weird a@@ dude but 'Imaginary Places' never gets old:

Cannibal Ox's 'Cold Vein' album was sick. El-P before he was widely known and producing everything for Def Jux. I always loved this track. Heard it first on some sick headphones ascending the subway into piercing sun on Broadway in Manhattan. It was powerful.

I always find Radioinactive's stuff just surreal and interesting.

I saw Anti-Pop (before they split up) at the 7th St. Entry in Mpls. They blew my mind. They were so freaky and bringing something from outerspace. It was like Sun Ra in a microwave.

There's quite a bit more. Rap is definitely alive and well and filled with all sorts of creativity beyond territorial and self-indulgent bulls#$%. My two cents.

I can't even finish listening to a few of these tracks. Again, to each his own, but I feel like if the name "Arcade Fire" wasn't on the cover the album, it would be a middling/decent album. It's an entertaining album to tap your foot to and an interesting attempt at something different but it's not up in the pantheon of their earlier works.

In their previous albums they did things that no other band could do. On this album, they did a bunch of 6 minute tracks that I could name 10+ bands right now could pull off. If I want to hear cool production out of Murphy I'll buy an LCD Soundsystem album.

I guess the difference in opinion resides there. Some of the posters on here enjoy a stripped-down, reggae beat Arcade Fire track or 5. For me, it gets incredibly repetitive and Win Butler's voice and the fact that they normally feature a great set of strings in their band go wasted. Throw in the fact that most of those songs drag on for 6+ minutes and I feel like 3/4 of the album is "wasted."

I'm going to take back the majority of what I said about Reflektor. A few of my comments hold as to why I still won't put it way up their in the works, but it's pretty good.

It is a real grower, it took almost 10 listens for me to start to appreciate the album. All except for "Afterlife." That took about 10 listens to make me realize it's one of my favorite tracks ever written.

No shocker, but Kanye's Yeezus tour just got under way and he's already cancelled shows in Anaheim and Vancouver. This is why I was upset when I heard Kendrick Lamar was on the ticket. I'm going to the show in DC on November 21st because I'll be out there for a convention. My hotel is a couple blocks away from the Verizon Center and I was planning on checking out Kendrick Lamar and leaving because I have to be up for work bright and early on Friday. Not to mention I can't stand Kanye these days. He's such a whiny diva. Always crying about something. "Nobody respects me as a designer." Cry me a freaking river douchebag. Hold on while I call the waaaaaaaahhhhhbulance. Go make another emo/electronica album in ripped jeans and a stupid vest while your girlfriend, Miss EverythingthatswrongwithAmerica, gets another botox injection or ass lift.

Now it looks to be a coin flip on whether or not the show happens. Lame.

Also, we have some new contributors, which is great. Please note though that we ask folks to stick to a maximum of two videos per post to keep things running smoothly for everyone. Also, as possible, please refrain from including videos when you quote people.

Gracias.
