GT:Bucks v. Lucky Denver Nuggets (7pm Central)

Fan appreciation night. The Bucks are 37-43 and 21-19 at home.

The Nuggets are 55-25 and 37-3 at home.

The Bucks could have reasonably obtained every player on the Denver roster at some point over the last five years.

We had the Nuggets coach here UNTIL Herb fired him.

They don't have a superstar. They haven't needed to tank for decades in the hope they get lucky in the lotto.

They just win big and play very entertaining basketball. But I'm sure Kohl and the Cronies will chalk up all their success to "luck".

Honestly, F**k George Karl. One could argue the downfall of this franchise started the second he convinced Grunfeld/Kohl to trade prime Ray Allen for washed up Gary Payton. How many stacked NBA rosters has Karl had the luxury of coaching? A ton. How many Finals appearances? One?

That Denver home record is insane.

Yeah I was disappointed when we parted ways with George Karl. I know at the time MANY wanted him gone and the timing seemed right to part ways, but I think he's a legit coach and we would've had more success with him here...even if Jimmy's points have some validity.

Denver is an interesting team though. They seem like that solid team year in and year out, but aren't a team that is going to have enough to be a champion. It almost comes back down to that needing a true "star" debate. I think they did well dealing Melo, but its almost as if that's a talent level player they need to get them over the top.

I can't see us winning this game the way the Bucks are playing, I assume Sanders/Jennings are out until the playoffs, and Denver needs this win to maintain seeding I believe.

Karl is a great coach, but his smoke and mirrors don't take him as far in the playoffs where you can just get bludgeoned by a superstar. He gets the most out of his teams, and he's flexible enough to do it however his personnel is set up. Defensive juggernaut in Seattle, offensive juggernaut in MKE, super cohesive transition team in DEN. One of the best coaches to never win one.

Thing with Karl that was stupid is they fired him after he traded everyone away. They either should of kept him or the players. Instead they gave away both.

Totally agree. I remember after we dealt Sam Cassell, I was thinking alright all of the ego's that clashed with Karl are gone. We had a team coming in that was pretty much fresh and Karl could've molded how he wanted, then they bought him out. I think him and Kohl were starting to clash a bit too if I recall correctly.

Karl was popular and was in the spotlight. Kohl didn't like that. Similar to Nellie.

Didn't they tank, suck or whatever people call it to get Melo? Then they traded him for a great package?

Edit to add my comment was directed at PP's comment that to build their team Denver didn't have to tank to get lucky in the lotto.

When Karl came out of the tunnel to the bench there was a spotlight on him.

I've said this before but the first time the Nuggets were here with Karl has their coach we blew a lead and lost. It's the one and only time I saw Kohl show emotion at a game. Game 7 against Charlotte? Nope. Sixers in the ECF? Nope. Losing to Karl? Yup.

Karl was fired by the Bucks in 2003 but received an ovation
before the game.

"I didn't think that it went either way," Karl said of his
reception. "There were some boos. There was some happiness. I
know what the streets of Milwaukee say about me - they like me
a lot. I walk around the city and feel very well-known. There
are actually some people in the city that still think I am the
coach of the Milwaukee Bucks."

His debut with the Nuggets appeared to be a sour one, however,
as his new team trailed by as many as 14 points late in the
third quarter and 80-68 entering the fourth.

But the Nuggets opened the final period on a 24-4 run, building
a 92-84 lead on a jumper by Anthony with 4:17 remaining.

Karl could promote the Bucks to the citizens of Wisconsin more in a summer than Kohl can in a couple of decades. Before Herb got jealous, Karl rode a tractor around rural Wisconsin as PR. What does Kohl do? Periodically scrunches up that pinched face into something approximating a smile. And spends his money foolishly.

Yeah Nellie started the tractor tradition to raise money. And anyone remember Barkley the pig (I think it's still at Goolsby's)?

I remember in that 2000-2002 period that Karl would get arguably the loudest ovation when he came out of the tunnel. Obviously that dwindled when that 01-02 team started to crumble.

Ironically they were arguably my favorite team in the early 90s when I was in elementary school. The Dan Issel/Mutombo era. A Mutombo Nuggets was actually my first jersey, lol. They had that little run where the beat the Sonics as the 8 seed and had some decent players (Mutombo, LaPhonso Ellis, Abdul-Rauf, McDyess) but that team broke up quickly and the later 90s were rough I believe.

No question they tanked for Melo. But they didn't suck for decades to get there.

And arguably the package they dealt him for consisted primarily of Galinari, who Hammond had opportunities to acquire.

Jennings will return tonight. Sanders "very questionable" which pretty much means he will not play. I'd hold him out until the playoffs.

Very well could be unless OKC wraps up the #1 seed tonight and rest Durant/Westbrook on Wednesday night...even that is no guarantee though.
