OT: Wisconsin law requires showing ID to fill prescription?

Post#1 » by Serge28 » Mon Apr 22, 2013 10:56 pm

Sorry for a very off topic question, but I thought there is some kind of Wisconsin law that requires pharmacies to only fill a doctor's prescription if a valid ID is shown. Isn't that the case or am I mistaken? I tried googling it to death but to no avail. I'd really appreciate any help here!

My girlfriends a pharmacy tech and says no, but they will ask you fill out information like address/name/etc. You do however need an ID for certain drugs like allegra/claritin.

I squandered an asset? Then Hammond taught me well.

I have three running prescriptions, one of which is Schedule II and I don't think I've ever presented an ID.

Uh, wouldn't you have an ID anyways to show them at the counter when you pick it up if they asked for one?

What is the fact pattern here?

Sure, but of the four pharmacies I've visited here they've never asked for one. Name, DOB and address is the extent of it.

For certain drugs, yes, but I don't know if it has anything to do with prescriptions.

When I was using Zyrtec D (non-prescription), I think I could only get 2 boxes per every 30 days or something like that, so Walgreens always checked my ID.

That's the only medication I've used where I was required to do that, however.

When I go to Walgreens, they just ask for name, address, and DOB for any prescription drug I've used.

I was aiming that one at Serge. Yeah, I never get asked for ID at Walgreens either. I'm positive though that the pharmacist can require it at their discretion.

No. I didn't even need to show it for an oxycontin prescription.

I was just being a smartest re: nebulas comment.

At any rate, an individual pharmacist has the right to not fill any prescription on their own judgement. So while it isn't law (as far as I know), you may be still asked for id, and if you don't comply you may walk away empty handed. Just depends on the pharmacist.
