Time to fire John Hammond

Post#1 » by paulpressey25 » Mon Apr 29, 2013 12:07 am

The cost to pay off his contract will likely be less than one year of Drew Gooden's contract. And Hammond saved Kohl the money for the buyout by offloading Tobias and Doron's contracts.

If Kohl does it, I promise to not post anything negative about the front office for an entire year.

For those last three fans unconvinced, Hammond has been GM for five full offseasons and five drafts.

His accomplishments:

-Only one winning season out of five, that winning season now being over three years ago.

-In five years added only one above average starter (Larry Sanders)

-Complete inability to be on the same page with his coaches

-Every year a new adventure with botched trade negotiations and bad trades, culminating in our 2013 deadline deal where we gave away Tobias and Lamb for essentially nothing.

Does Herb Kohl really want this guy helping assist with spending upwards of $30 million in cap space this summer?

Time for Hammond to go. It won't solve everything, but it will be a good start.

I've trashed the job he has done from day one but said I'd give him 5 yrs. He has done a bad job and needs to be fired. PP hit the highlights on why.

Sadly, I'm down.

His last two deadlines have been indefensible.

Does it honestly matter who the GM is if Kohl is the owner?
Why should you go to jail for a crime someone else noticed? You don't need double talk... You need Bob Loblaw.

Can't argue with facts. It's time for for Hambone to go.

Can't believe he got extended in the first place.

I'm more interested in seeing Kohl go. That is not praising Hammond by any means, but I think it would be interesting to see him operate under a different owner. Other teams have been interested in him. He will get another GM job. Should be fun to see what he can/cannot do under different circumstances.

I still can't believe he was given an extension. Why? For a guy who had clearly been unsuccessful so far, is there any harm in waiting until the off season to see what his deadline moves were like this year?

That kind of awful decision making is done by the people who will still be calling the shots, with or without Hammond as the front man. That's the problem, need ownership change before anything else matters.

Yes. The next guy we hire might actually have a brain and an ability to influence things over there and with other GM's during trade discussions.

It would look unbelievably bad to fire him a few months after extending him, but then again extending him was incredibly stupid in the first place.

We have a chance to finally pick a direction this off season and execute whatever strategy we want, whether its trying to go the Denver route, the OKC route, the Rockets route, etc. There is nothing to suggest that the current combination of guys in the Bucks FO will be able to accomplish this.

However, it would be a mistake to stop with Hammond. We need to get rid of the cronies and all the other common denominators of failure over 20 years of different GMs and coaches.

I dont disagree that Hammond is not a good GM, but when Kohl is a win now owner and wants JJ Redick at any cost, what is a GM to do?

The only GM that was able to convince him to tank was Harris. He lasted 2 years after that season?

No chance Kohl is willing to tank anymore with his age/possible stadium deal/selling the team all being factors. I guess I would rather not waste a good GM hire while Kohl is here.

He should have been fired two seasons ago. That train has sailed.

He was just given an extension.

Who the **** actually believes this is a possibility?

GS has had a young GM who seems to have it together. He is both a former agent and also former div I college player. I think it helps to be both book smart and court smart when being a GM.

Don't get a handmedown GM. Find someone who fits the mold even if they haven't done it before.

If this teams wants to get the talent it needs to even be a pretend contender it needs to draft at least in the top 5. That is the only direction this teams can take. We aren't signing a great FA and we have nothing of great value to trade.

I think most of us fully understand that Kohl and cronies are the primary problem here.

However, we have proven that Kohl combined with Hammond has now produced a horrific 5-year stretch in which we neither "won now" nor "built for the future".

We know that combo doesn't work. As a matter of fact, it combined for two of our worst trades in awhile with the Bogut/Tobias deals.

I really don't want to see the cronies scapegoat 100% of this on Skiles/Boylan and somehow assume all of this team's problems were 100% their fault. Hammond needs to be held accountable as well for this mess. Otherwise, we ought to stop calling him the GM of this team.

If John Hammond is a man of principles, then he will step down. Be a man John.

Is Hammond a good win now gm? - No

Is Hammons a good GM to rebuild? - Well, he hit some value in a couple of drafts. But can't recognise talent after trading Harris, trading for ellis instead of curry etc.

Would a new GM be allowed to rebuild? Probably not, if herbie is the owner.

Would a new GM be better trying to win now? Well... Its hard to be worse. There is any example of a team that didn't rebuild or tank in 5 seasons that failed to be a playoff team 4 times? (this year's team isn't a playoff team in a normal conference)

When he got his extension, I don't think even the biggest pessimists on here would have predicted that:

-The team would implode losing 16 of their last 20 or something like that.

-Tobias would blow up in Orlando IMMEDIATELY.

-Redick and Jennings would implode personally

-The entire organization would be mocked by the national media during the course of the four game sweep by the Heat.

Plenty of new information here since the extension.
