Jason Kidd new coach of the Bucks - Q&A Page 108

Post#1 » by paulpressey25 » Mon Jun 30, 2014 3:00 pm

Discuss.

I see this as like when Kohl hired George Karl. Could work out well in the short-run but has some red flags.

ETA: Personally, I also see that as being the plan all along when Edens and Lasry took over. And the reason why Hammond and Drew weren't let go right away. i.e. Lasry wanted to try and bring over Kidd from day one.

He paid $550mm so he's entitled to his guy. And this is his guy.

Bucks land Jason Kidd, source confirms. Compensation will be 2 second-round picks, one in 2015 and one in 2018 or 2019.

I think the mixture of losing a lot and his giant ego could be toxic.

I'm ok with this. 2nd seconds rounders means jack and **** in the long run due to the extreme longshot they tend to be.

I'm happy that MKE is a place that people want to come.

It's just all been so strange. Hard to know exactly what to think.

That about sums it up well. This whole thing is still absolutely nuts.

It was a messy way to go about things. Hammond and Drew should've been fired the second the sale went through. But nothing can be done about that now. The Bucks have upgraded at head coach and gave up nothing of real value to do so. If this is the guy the new owners want, so be it. I'm in with them even if I think they could've handled the situation far better and more intelligently then they did.

Cautious optimism from me. He did a great job the second part of last year and won a playoff series, game 7 on the other teams' floor. I'm going to see what happens. Don't hate it, don't love it and I want to see the actual results before I jump off a bridge, which I know a lot of posters will be doing here, at least metaphorically speaking.

I can't even say it was handled poorly, the only reason people will think that is because the news leaked before it happened. If today was the first we heard of it, no one would have a problem with the handling.

I have so many mixed emotions on this. Nervous about the effect he's going to have on our young, impressionable, potential stars.

I don't really have an opinion on Kidd as a coach. Don't like what I've read about him as a person or as someone who's made a habit of burning bridges in the league. But if he's a good coach, I don't really care a ton about that stuff.

What I do care a ton about is how our new owners have handled this entire situation.

I think people need to realize he will very likely be more than "coach". So that has to factor into your evaluation of the move.

I think this was handled terribly, for one. If it works out all will be forgiven, but if it doesn't, the owners will deserve the absolute wrath they receive.

2nd rounders are nearly worthless and teams can buy 2nd rounders if they do value them for whatever reason. Kidd is a nice upgrade from Drew.

I see the red flags, but I also see this as evidence that we're going big and not going home.

No offense, but this team has seen far worse in the last two-plus decades than the arrival of Jason Kidd. This won't even register a blip on the radar of horrific moves this team has made in that time.

I think PP25 laid out the best possible scenario for how this went down:

I actually think it goes well beyond that. My guess is that over the past couple years Lasry and Kidd have had numerous discussions about how to run an NBA team and Lasry has been eating up the answers Kidd has been providing. Given that Lasry was part owner of the Nets, probably most of Kidd's comments were against King and the Russians and were proven true over time, so Lasry has even more confidence in Kidd.

I'm now going where the puck is headed. Wasn't Kidd likely the guy a month or two ago? Now it makes total sense why they didn't immediately can Hammond and Drew. Lasry and Kidd had this friendship and Kidd was the guy all the time.

If it was carefully considered -- as opposed to the flying-by-the-seat-of-your-pants tampering-filled depiction the media is making it look like -- I would feel better about it.

Looking forward to hearing from Lasry himself on this front.

How our new owners handled this should alarm some people. It kind of gives us some insight to how they deal with people, doesn't it? Seems to be overlooked. And I think it really matters too.

We don't have an option. 8-)

Sam Presti or the new "Sam Presti" isn't walking through that door like some of us had hoped. So we buckle up.

I do think Kidd will make some good trades though. Hard not to improve on what Hammond and Kohl did.

Larry Drew is going to be just fine. I honestly can't believe people are feeling sorry for him.
