Why? We just drafted him #2 in one of the most loaded drafts of the last 10 years. My expectations are sky high. I think he will be an overall minus his first year, but I will be severely disappointed if he doesn't show potential to be perennial all star.

Dude is obviously a beast and should be commanding doubles in no time. Assuming he becomes an above average passer and average defender, he has no reason not to become an All Star.

40% from three is a very high mark. There are only 16 active players who have a 40+% career mark from three, and nearly all of them are spot up specialists. Here is a list of the 50 current players with the highest 3pt%. Note the abundance of specialist guards and wings and the lack of PFs.

Stating that Jabari needs to shoot 40% from three to "be fine" is absurd. If he's able to shoot that well from three, he'll almost certainly be an offensive powerhouse.

yeah 40% is elite. People don't realize how hard it is. One thing on that list that stood out is just how good Steve Nash was. I know he gets some crap from peeps who didn't like that he won 2 mvps but dude was truly one of the better shooters ever to play the game and couple that with the passing and as crazy as it sounds for a guy with 2 mvps and no rings he had an underrated career. Just a pleasure to watch.

Yeah if Jabari can only ever become as good a shooter as bums like KD or Dirk, he's a bust.

The Durant that's had seasons of 42%, 41% and 39%? The Dirk that's had seven seasons of three point shooting over 39% Yes, I think he's going to have to be that kind of shooter at some point if he's ever going to be a franchise kind of talent.

Based on what? He is more more 'versatile' than 'tweener', let alone a 'classic' tweener. He should obviously work on transforming his body, but he's hardly too small for PF.

Tweeners at Jabari's size are typically not tall/long enough to excel down low, and not quick/skilled enough to excel on the wing. Players who are 'versatile' are capable of excelling in more than one phase of the game/scoring in many different ways, on different types of players, etc...while that was certainly true in HS and put Jabari on SI as 'the next lebron', I'm not sure he will continue to enjoy those advantages at the NBA level.

The point is that when Jabari doesn't have a good matchup, he needs to pull back and find another way to contribute - let Brandon, Giannis exploit their matchups instead. He's never had to do that before; so you'll see him forcing shots and driving with his head down into traffic hoping to get a foul call...that is part of everyone's learning curve in the NBA, but given that people seem to expect him to be such a star that he's double teamed every night, leading the team in scoring, etc...it could hurt his confidence to find that the NBA is full of the kind of guys he struggled against at Syracuse and Virginia.

I was referring to the kind of guys Jabari has outclassed so far in HS and against ACC teams not named Virginia/Syracuse...my point was that power forwards in the NBA are all bigger and better than what he's used to bulling through or crossing over on the perimeter.

Anyway, here's a list of NBA guys (power forwards only, certainly some SF that you'd want to add here as well, but you get the idea) that I think Jabari will struggle to dribble around/shoot over. Lebron James, Serge Ibaka, Taj Gibson, Thaddeus Young, Kawhi Leonard, Paul Millsap, Andrei Kirilenko, Kevin Garnett, Blake Griffin, Kenneth Faried, Patrick Patterson, Greg Monroe, Lamarcus Aldridge, Luc Richard Mbah Moute, Amir Johnson, Josh McRoberts, Carmelo Anthony, Earl Clark, Ed Davis.

Next, you pick 5 guys off this list that you disagree with and tell me I am stupid and crazy, etc etc. Fun stuff!

Nah I'm too hungover to get too argumentative today. I will say though that if you think he can't dribble past Greg Monroe he must be the worst scoring prospect in the draft. :D

He'll be able to dribble past any of those guys on any given possession if he's single manned. If they choose to lay off, he'll just rise up and shoot. He has a powerful body along with plus handles and quickness for the position. I don't see him having any problem getting to where he wants to go with the basketball against a man defense.

That's just ridiculous. He's still a kid and has baby fat lol look at his high school film from barely over a year ago he was almost chubby. Look what nba workouts and rating right did for kevin love. I'm not saying he's gonna turn into some world class sprinter or jumper but he's just a kid.
