Nate Wolters will be the one to get his minutes cut.

I don't like it, I just have a feeling that Kidd was underwhelmed with his Summer League

This move isnt as bad as people are making it seem. Yes it is odd, although the good news is that it makes going after Bledsoe seemingly less likely.

He may steal a few mins from players but doubt he gets shuge mins and can become a trade chip near the deadline. Not long ago he was given huge minutes by MEM in important playoff games, should have at least some value to teams needing spacing/shooting

I am not too worried about having enough minutes for everyone. Buck still have only 5 guards. Gianni's, Delfino, Englis, and Middleton are all SFs, but can play SG in a pinch. I would guess that Delfino or Miroslav are the odd men out to clear up a roster spot. Miroslav doesn't fit with what Kidd want to do at Center and is easy to move.
Trade S. Jackson soon. NJ seems like a nice place for him.

Agreed. I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't play at all. Or gets cut. Or traded for a future 2nd rounder. Guess I'd rather have it that way than trying to find minutes for all these guys. Too bad because I like Nate. But thats exactly why signing Jerryd Bayless was absolutely pointless.

Middleton played a lot of SG last year. If he's strictly a SF this season, what does that mean for Giannis' minutes? Middleton's minutes? Surely that means Inglis won't see the floor. And I keep forgetting about Delfino...ugh.

Middleton played less than 1% of the teams total minutes at SG last year, actually

They have him listed as the PF in these lineups:

Knight-Antetokounmpo-Adrien-Middleton-Henson
Sessions-Antetokounmpo-Adrien-Middleton-Pachulia
Knight-Sessions-Adrien-Middleton-Pachulia
Knight-Sessions-Adrien-Middleton-Henson
Knight-Antetokounmpo-Butler-Middleton-Raduljica
Sessions-Antetokounmpo-Adrien-Middleton-Henson

I think they're full of it. I don't think he was the other guard in any of those lineups, either, though. It was either Yanni, Knight or Sessions. If you check Adrien's, they have him playing 17% of our SF minutes.

This is why I don't trust their positional designations or opponent PER.

What he was "listed" as and the position he actually played were two completely different things.

When I see Knight Middleton Giannis PF C, Wolters Middleton Giannis PF C, or Sessions Middleton Giannis PF C, I consider Middleton the SG. Especially in Larry Drew's "offense." Giannis spent most of his time camping out in the corner, never handling the ball. And Middleton is much more of a true "shooting guard" than Giannis anyway.

Are the numbers based on essentially a lineup card? Giannis was the PG for a couple of games in summer league but was listed at Center because he did the tip off. Unless you break down each play (and split offense and defense) I'm not sure that anything is going to be 100% accurate.

I think Middleton is as much of a SG as Delfino. While he can shoot, he is more of a wing than a guard. Giannis at this stage in his development is closer to being a young, longer, Brandon Knight than anything else.

Basketball Reference has Middleton's splits as:

SG - 27%
SF - 70%
PF - 3%

I'm personally thrilled with our offseason. I don't get how anyone could not be.

Positives:

1. Got the second overall pick in a draft that has been viewed as very strong. Got a guy who is probably a top 10 overall prospect since LeBron was drafted.
2. Got a high upside guy in the second round in Inglis and a potential rotation big in O'Bryant.
3. Picked up a quality, young guard in Kendall Marshall for nothing.
4. Hired a big name coach who has hired a staff full of guys that are committed to developing young talent.

Negatives:

1. Gave Bayless what is probably a 2 year, 6 or 7 million dollar deal.

If Bayless is that big of a deal that he outweighs the things that were positives, then I'm not sure what to tell you. The less we do in the offseason in terms of adding a bunch of salary, the better in my opinion. For the first time in a while I can say that I am (so far) very happy with what we have done.

Pretty much so this.

The way this board operates is to damn them for the one bad move. Somehow signing an end of bench guy really screwed everything up for us. The board also likes to talk about all the creative opportunities we missed out on, like they know we actually had options available to us or like they also know we made zero attempt at whatever creative options were there. Of course there will be zero creativity behind picking up a 16th guaranteed contract via waiver and whatever happens from there.

Compare this to last year's offseason and where we were as a franchise and I was depressed. My mood was slightly elevated by knowing I'd no longer have to watch Jennings or Ellis, but then the season happened. Where we are now as a franchise is light years ahead of where we were just one year ago. Signing Bayless just doesn't matter in the grand scheme.

I'm not going to sweat the signing...very likely we are committing to an undersized SG all year, with Knight being the starter and Bayless the back up. They pair fine with Marshall and Wolters because they have good size at the PG.

As long as these means Mayo is a DNP-CD, it shouldn't dramatically impact anyone too much.

I think Middleton is the back up SF, with some spot minutes at SG and PF when we need some scoring punch. One thing is for sure, if Kidd has any intent on playing Mayo, ZaZa, Slav and Delfino this year, we are going to be really short on minutes to go around. If not, I think it will sort it self out okay.

I think we'll see Knight+Bayless as the starting combo going into camp, with Marshall+Mayo off the bench, or Wolters+Knight, and Marshall+Bayless off the bench depending on what happens with Mayo.

I wish we could say "of course the Bucks will make a trade consolidating assets if only to avoid pissing off players who won't get minutes" but unfortunately we've seen that movie before with Hammond.

This is a good test case for how much the new regime has changed with the old guard still in the fold.

The lineup Middleton played the most SG minutes:

Knight
Middleton
Giannis
Ilyasova
Henson

11 games, 78 minutes. It was his 6th highest used lineup.

Right below that was the same lineup, only with Sanders. 14 games, 65 minutes.

Those were the 8th and 9th most used lineups last season. They were both brutally terrible in terms of NET Rtg.

If there was one lineup you could consider worse, given the amount of time it saw, it was:

Knight
Mayo
Middleton
Udoh
Henson

I'm stun that one didn't work out.
