GT: 11/25/14 Bucks vs. Pistons (7pm CST FS-WI)

Though the Detroit Pistons have endured many poor shooting nights this season, their best came against the Milwaukee Bucks.

Looking to avoid a fifth consecutive defeat, the visiting Pistons will try to end the latest shooting slump with another strong performance against the Bucks on Tuesday night.

Detroit (3-10) is shooting 41.0 percent to rank near the bottom of the league, but has been a touch worse over the last three contests at 38.4.

"We've got to find some answers," coach Stan Van Gundy said after the Pistons shot 37.3 percent during Friday's 99-89 loss at Atlanta. "We as a group, not just the players.

"We just don't have really anybody playing at a very high level. I don't think that we're executing well enough or with enough energy."

Aside from 6-foot-11 Greg Monroe, who is making 48.6 percent of his shots but does most of his scoring near the rim, none of Detroit's other starters are shooting better than 43.8 percent. Kyle Singler's 43.9 is the best mark among a key reserve trio that also features veterans D.J. Augustin and Caron Butler.

"I don't think we're getting good shots overall," said Van Gundy, whose team is 11 of 46 from 3-point range in the last two. "I think that we've got to really go back and re-teach things and do a better job in terms of screening and cutting to get better shots."

Josh Smith went 8 of 19 from the field and finished with a team-high 16 points against the Hawks, who combined with the Pistons on a 9-for-45 performance from long range.

Smith scored two of his 14 points off a key rebound with 15.1 seconds left, then stripped Milwaukee guard Brandon Knight to help the Pistons to a 98-95 home victory Nov. 7. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope scored 19 to lead six players in double figures for Detroit, which shot a season-high 49.3 percent, including 11 of 23 from beyond the arc.

Former Bucks guard Brandon Jennings had 15 points with six assists in that game but could miss the rematch after he sat out the fourth quarter Friday with a hyperextended left thumb. Jennings had 47 points and 15 assists in two games at Milwaukee last season.

Detroit has won two in a row and seven of nine against the Bucks, who snapped a three-game series home skid with a 104-101 victory Jan. 22.

Milwaukee (7-7) had won three straight and five of six before losing to Toronto and Washington by a combined 53 points. The Bucks shot 39.9 percent in those two contests, but perhaps more alarming is that their last four opponents shot a combined 50.1 percent.

"We've got to treat every team like they are (one of the top teams) in the conference," said rookie Jabari Parker, who matched a season low with six points during Saturday's 111-100 home loss to the Wizards.

Knight, who played his first two seasons with the Pistons, scored 27 and Giannis Antetokounmpo added 20 in his return to the starting lineup after he was limited to 15 minutes off the bench while dealing with a sore ankle Friday against the Raptors.

Parker scored 18 against the Pistons earlier this month.

Knight has averaged 19.3 points, 8.3 assists and 7.3 rebounds in his last three versus Detroit, which traded him to Milwaukee in the July 2013 deal that included Jennings.

We can expect to see knight play hero ball vs his old team. Should be a win though

This will be a telling game to me. Two straight convincing losses to top-tier Eastern Conference teams is understandable, but I expect us to beat a poor team that is struggling as much as the Pistons are.

I'm still not buying the 8th seed hype. It's a long season and I think our young guys are going to hit a wall sooner or later. Beating a 3-10 Pistons squad won't make me believe we're a playoff contender, but it will convince me that we should be looking at prospects in the 7-13 range of the draft, as opposed to the top 5.

Should be a win, but I worry about getting pulverized on the boards. Can't count on Drummond getting in foul trouble.

pistons are in one of the worst situations in the nba. even their young "star" is playing like garb (and always has been overrated).

there's almost no one on that roster i like.

Going to be there, game predictions

We hold Detroit under 90
Knight puts up 30 (on how many shots, I don't know)
Giannis sets season high in assist
Parker hits a couple of 3's
The over/under on the number of times I ask "why the f*ck is Jared Dudley in the game right now?" is 6.5

SVG is consistently voted as the least likable coach and they hired him to coach a roster full of knuckleheads.

He's gonna have to gut that roster and start by getting rid of Jennings & Josh Smith.

Send Jennings to LAL, he and Nick Young can shoot the Lakers into the lottery all they want.

That said, I'll be pretty disappointed if we can't win this game.

For himself or the team? ;)

Thankfully Jared's been in the lineups less with Giannis' increased playing time.

Apparently Brandon Knight has been listed as questionable for tonight's game with a quad injury. Brandon Jennings has also been listed as questionable with a thumb injury.

Free Wolters

I would actually love to see how the team does without Brandon. The advanced stats say they should be better however he is a threat when on the floor so I am not sure how much to trust the on court off court stats.

You mean a team went out and tried to make Josh Smith and Brandon Jennings focal parts of their starting line ups and they are a poor shooting team? Color me surprised!

I hope we win this and we probably should, if we bring energy. Don't want Knight to be hurt or anything, but would love to see a game where he didn't play, just to see if we're all right that we're much better with him off the court vs. on it.

I would really love to see us play without Knight for a game or even better a stretch of games.

Love to see the dynamic of a pass first PG on this team. We may not be ready for it with our main talents outside of Knight being so inexperienced but I'd rather see those other young guys try and carry a bit more scoring load.

Sadly Knight is our only consistent scoring option so we may lose with him out.......Detroit is bad though. Stuck in 8th land.

Kidd talks about that in this morning's Milwaukee paper:

"We have to try and stay in front of the ball. We're asking our bigs to bail us out a lot, and that takes a big off a big. We're giving their bigs opportunities to rebound the ball, and so a small is on a big. Most of the time the bigs are going to win that contest."

http://www.jsonline.com/sports/bucks/bu ... 87591.html

This is where I think Knight's defense isn't as great as his supporters claim. Anybody else not staying in front of the ball?
"Our goal is to become a championship team," Kidd said.

Would love to see Nate start also, but sounds like he is questionable also with an illness.

Still waiting on this one. Mayo should definitely be the starting SG. Kidd has tried Dudley and Middleton as the starting 2. Why not OJ Mayo? And don't give me, "because I don't want to lose his bench production." Enter Brandon Knight. It makes too much sense. Knight can play a role that fits his skill set. He can come in and be counted on to put the ball in the basket with the 2nd unit. Perfect. Why didn't somebody think of that BEFORE the season? :D
