The Bucks have the most jerseys retired for the fewest number of championships of any team in pro sports.

THE ABOVE STATEMENT IS AN EXAMPLE OF SOMETHING CALLED "HYPERBOLE".
At a party given by a billionaire, Kurt Vonnegut informs Joseph Heller that their host had made more money in a single day than Heller had earned from his novel Catch-22.

Heller responds, “Yes, but I have something he will never have — ENOUGH.”

Well the Brewers among others have zero championships so find that hard to believe.

Lanier shouldn't have his jersey retired by the Bucks. He was here for only 4 or 5 years at the end of his career and wasn't even putting up All-Star numbers (despite being an All-Star one season with the Bucks)

Bobby D deserves it. More than Lanier or Bridgeman or Winters. This is long overdue. Now get Marques up there.

Yes we have too many numbers retired but we can't undo that.

This is deserving based on past precedent.

However I didn't agree with past precedent, so I wouldn't have done this.

When you look back at the jersey retirements in the context of Kohl's ownership, the cynical person would now say he and Steinmiller launched one of those every five years to remind the faithful of the great memories they had of the winning years and thus try to link those good feelings with the Kohl years.

Best Bucks' fourth round pick ever. :)

I used to be Bobby Dandridge when playing basketball in my driveway. Great fade away.

Carlos Delfino should be furious. He deserved a retired jersey based on his post game interviews alone.

He deserves to have his name on a ring of honor (along with Marques), but don't retire numbers

We need a ring of honor-type level of recognition for those players whose numbers we don't want to retire but still want to celebrate. Big Dog, Allen, etc would go there.

Think that'd be a pretty cool idea for a new Arena. Either a plaque with that players name and career stats or something in an atrium. Could have that as well as Marquette wall honoring those players too.

Agree. We definitely have some questionable #s retired. Really I'd say 1, 4, and 33 are the only ones that are legit. Johnny Mac would be a better candidate to have an entrance or something named after him as a lifetime award.

Yeah the bar is pretty low for retired numbers but I agree, there should be a "ring of honor" and a Bucks Hall of Fame as part of the new arena.

Agreed, I also find it stupid and shortsighted that Bucks would retire so many jerseys of its best players that never won a title, or were with us for only a short time. We're not the Celtics or the Lakers for God's sakes. We probably should maybe only retired 4 numbers by this point instead of 7, but the early 90s the team got too nostalgic about our better teams in the 70s, 80s, despite Herb Kohl running the great Don Nelson outta town.

Retired numbers
1 Oscar Robertson, G, 1970–74
2 Junior Bridgeman, F, 1975–84 and 1986–87
4 Sidney Moncrief, G, 1979–89
14 Jon McGlocklin, G, 1968–76
16 Bob Lanier, C, 1980–84
32 Brian Winters, G, 1975–83
33 Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, C, 1969–75

Is it possible to 'unretire' some numbers? Lanier at least?

I'd like a ring of shame - Gary Payton, Yi JIanlian, Bobby Simmons, Anthony Mason, Stephen Jackson.....

In all honesty, Dandridge does deserve the recognition. But having 8 retired jerseys and only 1 title to show for it? You can look back at our team's horrible history and ask Kohl & Steinmiller if they were smoking Larry's favorite herb.
