MCW vs J-Kidd, first 2 years

Post#1 » by abe5150 » Fri Feb 20, 2015 7:01 am

Here are the primary stats for the first 2 years between MCW and your Hall-of-Fame head coach.

In summary, I think MCW deserves more time. Just more evidence that most players, including the all-time greats, struggle in their first 2 years:

MCW's first season is statistically better than Kidd's. But Kidd showed improvement in most categories his second season, while MCW went down a bit.

MCW Rookie Year

26.4% on 3-Pointers
70.3% on free throws

Really not feeling it at all on the offense side of things.

More then willing to give him a chance as a buck. Havnt watched him close enough to form my own opinion. Looking forward to seeing Ennis just as much if not more however.

FWIW, MCW played really well last year with Hawes, Turner and Thad. Despite all those tanking criticisms, Sixers were able to beat the Heat, Bulls and the Rockets last year.

I think the problem with MCW is that he lacks advanced dribbling ability. He's best playing pick and pop, so expect more of that with Ilyasova. The problem with MCW is that you can just go under him off PnRs, because he's just a horrible shooter. Or you can switch him with a big man where he has trouble beating any guy (even centers) off the dribble.

For me the perfect role for MCW is similar to Jose Calderon on offense, not a volume scorer but more of an opportunistic one with most of the shot attempts off spot ups and fastbreak. Then exert more effort on the intangibles such as defense and rebounding. Pretty similar to a post prime J-Kidd.

Wow How do I get less excited about a player. He can't beat anyone off the dribble and he can't shoot.

He's good off PnR. The extra separation off pick plus his length and quickness gets him enough distance for him to attrack the rim. But then it depends on what kind of defense the opposing team throws at him. What I notice is that he's a strong finisher with his right. He also got length for a scoop-drop pass thats hard to guard.
