76ers-Bucks Preview

By ALAN FERGUSON
Posted Feb 24 2015 9:46PM

An ailing foot has kept Michael Carter-Williams from making his debut with the Milwaukee Bucks.

That highly anticipated moment could come Wednesday night against his former team, the Philadelphia 76ers.

Carter-Williams was sent to Milwaukee in a three-team deal completed minutes before Thursday's trade deadline. The Bucks sent Brandon Knight and Kendall Marshall to Phoenix in exchange for Miles Plumlee and Tyler Ennis.

Carter-Williams averaged 16.0 points, 6.7 assists and 6.2 rebounds in his 111 games with Philadelphia and had three of his five career triple-doubles this season.

"I had no idea I was going to be traded. The trade deadline was at 3 p.m. and I got the call at about 2:59, so I was shocked," Carter-Williams told the Bucks' official website. "I was a little disappointed at first, but once everything sunk in, I met the guys here and talked with coach (Jason) Kidd, I was really excited to be here.

"I hold no remorse toward Philly. I believe I'm in a better place. I can't wait to get out there and have fun."

Carter-Williams has been on the sidelines for his first three games with Milwaukee and missed six straight contests overall because of a right foot strain. He's listed as probable for Wednesday.

The Bucks (31-25) could use him following their lowest-scoring performance of the season.

Milwaukee was also held to a season-low 33.7 percent shooting, including a 4-for-18 effort from 3-point range, in Monday's 87-71 loss to Central Division rival Chicago.

"We're waiting to get Michael Carter-Williams healthy and on the floor, but it is going to take us some time to get the offense clicking," Kidd said. "We had some good looks that just didn't go down for us."

The Bucks have dropped back-to-back games after winning nine of 10 and had a seven-game home streak snapped - their longest in five seasons - with a 97-86 defeat to Atlanta on Sunday.

They would appear to have a promising chance to get back in the win column against the lowly 76ers (12-44), who have been depleted by deadline deals that netted mostly draft picks.

Philadelphia is also without leading scorer Tony Wroten (knee) and has seen its season-worst road losing streak grow to 10, three shy of matching its longest from 2013-14. A 119-108 loss in Miami on Monday was also the 76ers' fourth in a row overall.

With Carter-Williams traded and Wroten out, Robert Covington (13.2 ppg) is the team's top scorer and he had 16 points, five steals and zero turnovers against the Heat. Reserve Hollis Thompson scored 22 points, one shy of matching his career high.

The 76ers' woes have been mostly at the other end of the floor lately. They've given up an average of 109.3 points on 50.4 percent shooting in their first three games since the trade deadline after allowing 90.8 points on 40.3 percent shooting in the prior eight.

"We pride ourselves on playing defense and we've been pretty good at playing defense until this last couple of games," Nerlens Noel said.

Milwaukee has won the past four against the 76ers by an average of 15.5 points and had one of its best shooting performances of the season (53.9 percent) in a 97-77 road victory Jan. 7. The Bucks have also taken four straight home games in the series, the latest a 93-81 final Oct. 31.

I will be going tonight. The wife and I got the Milwaukee Originals pack so I'm kind of excited to get my shirt. They damn well better have a lot of XXL because I ain't skinny.

Glad to be at MCW''s first game. Excited to see him play and I'm going to guess we win this one pretty easily. Do they even have any NBA players left outside of Noel?

I would guess he'll play, but the article doesn't actually say he will.

Did he get a practice in yet?

MCW should've taken #3 so we could call him Triple Dubya

edit: forgot that Kidd wore number 5 when he played with the Nets and Knicks

I kind hope this means Ennis won't play, as well. I am happy to have him as a third guard but I think he needs a lot more time to be comfortable enough here to be productive. I think he has potential, but right now he's kind of a mess. Which is understandable, this would be his 11th or 12th game this year.

Got some really good tickets for a really good price for this game before I knew MCW would debut, looking forward to it.

MC5 works too.

They should play this every time he has an assist on a dunk or 3pt shot:

? Why wouldn't you play him? He'll get Kendall Marshall's minutes. I mean if we are going to continue to trot JOB out there then Ennis gets to play. I like that these guys are getting some minutes. Less chance of trading a Tobias away not knowing what you have in him.

Comparing Michael Carter-Williams and Bucks' Jason Kidd on the court

A young Kidd and upstart Carter-Williams share a lot of the same strengths and weaknesses in their respective games. Now that it’s J-Kidd’s job to mold the youngster moving forward, it will be fascinating to see how MCW develops.

There’s a lot to like about the direction the Bucks are heading, but now the organization’s long-term success will be tied to the relationship between Carter-Williams and Kidd. If they can make the partnership work, Milwaukee will soon become a legitimate force in the Eastern Conference.

That's outstanding. Ol' Wayner and 'em could rustle up a hellafied noise.

I hope MCW makes Ersan look amazing. I'd love to get some trade value out of him this off season.

I'm not saying never, just limited. I want to see what he has, it's just that right now he isn't productive. He needs some time before I think he will have any meaningful production.

He's looked decent to me :dontknow: Kendall Marshall was getting almost 15mpg as the third PG. Ennis should get those minutes. He has looked better than Naters or Jorge did so far.
