:( He is going to be greatly missed. What an amazing career he has had though. Greg Gard is going to have some huge shoes to fill.

Will be interesting to see how this plays out. Ryan is helping Gard out a lot more than Bennett did for Soderberg. Does Barry ignore Bo's request?

He looks like he has aged a decade the last 3 years. I'm glad he is going to take some time away. He took a perenial doormat and turned it into a national power. Kudos on a great career. I wish he would have won the Natl Champ and gone out on top (which he almost certainly would have done looking back at it).

Was going to say he looks really old. He's less than 2 years older than my dad but looks 20 years older than he does and my dad has been a chain smoker for 50 years, so it's not like he looks like he's 40.

I kind of didn't see this coming which is dumb since he's 67 years old and just had the greatest 2 year run in program history. I think I was just pretending that he would be the coach until he was on his deathbed.

Unless he is chasing some magic number, why come back this season? Program is set for a down year aren't they?

Legitimately saddens me. Why oh why couldn't the Badgers close out against the evil empire. Bo deserved a title. He is a better coach than lots and lots of coaches that have them.

Barry will make the safe choice (Gard).
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

No. He took a team that had stability and recently made a Final Four. He built upon that success.

Anything less than a national title is kind of a down year now, no? I expect them to be competitive, how much depends on the freshmen and how certain players develop/settle into expanded roles. I would say that it seems like he is doing Alvarez and the program a favor, giving them more time to facilitate a smooth transition.

Agreed, I think he gives him a run to see how he does both coaching and recruiting before he would think about Bennett etc

I think he lets Gard run the majority of the show this year, practices etc maybe some of the lightweight games, to get his feet wet before Bo rides of into the sunset.

I was more thinking we just lost two of three best players in which the team was basically built around. Couple that with coming off of our most successful season in the last who knows how many years and I'm not sure we landed any big fish recruits (not that Bo plays freshman often) and it seems to me, we are likely heading for a down year.

Would you disagree? I don't really follow the scouting, so would love to hear otherwise. Right now it seems like we have Draymond 2.0 in Nigel and not much else.

Essentially gives Gard on the job training before Barry has to decide.

In the absolute strictest literal interpretation, yes, failure to win a title would constitute a down year after 2015's runner up ending. In that, and only that, sense are you right.

I'm clearly older than you are but I don't even get what lens you are looking through. When Bo was named HC in 01-02 WI had made the NCAA tourney 7 times in its history and had made it to the sweet 16 twice in its history. Since he was named coach he has made the tourney every year of his 14 years.

Huge news. Now he can film more Visit Wisconsin commercials.
