Dez + 7th for Outlaw+Jack

Post#1 » by Neapolitan Buck » Wed Apr 30, 2008 9:28 pm

On the Portland board there is a thread on that trade, and the interesting thing is they think we would not do it (I would LOVE a similar move!). Here is the link:

Thats a HORRIBLE trade

SF is the easiest position to fill.

Outlaw is nice, but not even close to being worth our first round pick.

I forgot to add that this thread confirms that we should not underrate our players or at least we should consider when we purpose a trade that other teams might overrate our guys, expecially if they have good stats (read Mo)...

Outlaw is nice and cheap and young, Jack and Sessions would be a very nice rotation at PG and Mo would become expendable.

The last thing the Bucks should do is trade away their draft pick.

If anything the Bucks should try to make a trade to get another first round pick.

We had a lot of first round picks, and I have not seen all of this results after them. I'm tired of kids, we need balance.

We can no question get a better player than Outlaw at #7 (although I do like him). Bad trade.

On a different note, I just posted a story I read a couple weeks ago on HA in the HA thread. I was looking for that thread here, but glad to see it over there.

The story is about HA and another backup center getting into quite the tussle and ended with HA wielding a huge pole and screaming Korean expletives. It's quite amusing.

The only way we are realy going to strengthen the team is through the draft unless we rape someone in a trade.

And impact free agents arent going to come here right now because we suck.

I think the whole ''we cant get free agents because we are a small market'' thing is over blown.

If the Bucks build a winning tradition and start moving in the right direction solid free agents will come here.

It all starts with the draft (and drafting smart) in my opinion to get the winning ball rolling.

I don't know why we always see Jarret Jack to Milwaukee trades. His game is just so underwhelming to me.

No way I give up the 7 for him and Outlaw.

I think our pick is being highly overvalued here. Look at the guys who have been drafted at the 7 spot since 2000:

2000: Chris Mihm
2001: Eddie Griffin
2002: Nene Hilario
2003: Kirk Hinrich
2004: Luol Deng
2005: Charlie V.
2006: Brandon Roy
2007: Corey Brewer

Hardly awe-inspiring talent. You've got a number of busts there and only two players to get really excited about in Deng and Roy.

I'm not saying I'd make the trade but IMO anyone who claims its completely horrible needs to look at NBA draft history. Its far from given you can even get a player of Outlaw's caliber there especially in a draft that is considered by many to be particularly weak.

In this trade we got a guy whose drastically older than most prospects and has already proven to at least be an NBA caliber player. A #7 pick might be slightly high but I think Outlaw is already a better player than a lot of late lottery guys end up being.

Our pick is not that valuable, but I still wouldn't consider that trade offer.

Picks in that range are very hit or miss.

From the looks of it, they are more often a miss. Going back to the 90's, you have world-beaters like Lionel Simmons, Luc Longley, Walt Williams, Bobby Hurley, Lamond Murray, Lorenzen Wright, Tim Thomas, and Jason Williams. Although the odds of getting a player named "Williams" seem decent, getting a quality NBA player does not.

So over the course of almost 20 years, Deng, Roy and Richard Hamilton are the only significant hits.

I can understand the logic of passing on the trade but the value here really isn't that far off. If our pick was 10 or below, I'd trade it for Outlaw without hesitation unless there was a player we were specifically targeting in the draft and knew would be available or unless the pick could be packaged as part of a better deal.

The last part is my main objection to the trade. I'd rather hold onto the pick and use it as part of a larger deal.
