What do you think people were saying when Seattle decided to name their team the Supersonics? That is worse than the Thunder (which is still pretty lame).

Back then, people didn't care (or at least I would assume so, as 1967 {the Sonics' inaugural year} happened well before I was born).

As for the topic at hand, "Thunder" makes sense for Oklahoma City, though it is rather lame.

Any guesses for equally lame color schemes?...Black and Yellow maybe? Keep the whole the storm feeling going.
Hopefully something new.

I don't really care about the name. If they win nobody will care about the name either. But they won't be winning for awhile so I guess people will nitpick the name for at least a couple years.

Maybe it's just a knee jerk reaction about me disliking it. Over time I'll get used to it, I guess. That happened with me and the Bobcats. Now they're name is only a piece of crap.

The colors are reportedly Sky Blue, Red, and a bit of Gold.

First, I have no idea what the hell that even means. Do they mean actual gold color? Or is it piss yellow like some stupid teams that claim to be "gold"? Also what kind of Red?

And secondly, that means they will be using the two most used jersey colors in the league, Blue and Red, :nonono:

How many teams in the league dont have a jersey that has at least some blue or some red? 4? 6?

Maybe they should have gone with the OKC Sharks, that's a cool team name.

I'm hoping that okc is massively landlocked, making it one of those team names that makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

Reminds me of the start of Baseketball where the compere talks about "..the Jazz, who moved to Utah, where they don't allow music." :D Gold!

I tought black and gold...How do you mix red, sky blue and gold??? First the Thunder, then the color scheme...It seems like a friend of mine when plays to Pro Evolution Soccer on PS that creates always awful colored jerseys for his team because he finds it funny.

Sky blue, gold and red.

It's basically the Denver Nuggets color scheme with red replacing white.

No-one has awesome festivally-confusing colours like green and purple except us! Need a uniform that's primarily brown for a desert team I reckon.

G'day Matty!

I hate all teams that do not end in "s". Especially the great soccer team the Milwaukee Wave!

A joke name for a joke team in league that is rapidly becoming a joke.

On the other hand, the OKC Thunder is only temporary.

Me thinks this 'All or Nothing' method of negotiation with municipalities is setting the stage for the NBA's eventually (wet dream) global expansion. Although we are already learning that we probably shouldn't hold ourselves to the whims of a global economy, the NBA is having none of that. And, why should they when they can take maybe the one game that has truly global popularity, to huge markets that are only now beginning to devolop a taste for expensive leisure (thanks to the global economy).

Having said all of that, I can't wait for the Beijing Bucks and the Dubai Grizzles. That just sounds right.

There is a soccer team in the A-League (or whatever the league the Milwaukee Rampage and Wave United used to play in is called, it's the level below MLS) called the Minnesota Thunder.

Don't forget the Brainerd Blue Thunder of the Northwoods League. That league is loaded with great names. Mankato Moondogs, Thunder Bay Border Cats, St. Cloud River Bats and my personal favorite, the Rochester Honkers.

And the hilarious motto for the Green Bay Bullfrogs. "Grip It & Ribbit."

they just played the alexandria beetles, so they had a promotion that the first like 250 fans coming into the stadium that would eat a beetle got a ticket for the all you can eat/drink area.
