Its a shame basketball is only the 5th most popular sport. This board is the only place where i can talk NBA and have people actually know what im talking about.

I was actualy surprised that Bogut wasn't a bigger celebrity in Australia. A few years ago I was in Japan and met a couple of guys from Australia. (Awesome guys by the way. Friendly and boy did they know how to drink), but I asked them what they thought of Bogut and they didn't know who I was talking about.

I think 5th is optimistic. AFL, rugby league, rugby union, football, cricket, golf, motorsport, swimming... probably netball then basketball I'd imagine.

Re: Would you trade Bogues for Lopez
ATM basketball is having a rought patch in Oz. That combined with a lack of televised national games has really hurt the league. As always public identity with Oz basketball lives and dies usually with our progress in the Olympics. (as with the lesser known sports, particularly here in Aus, when you have success on the world stage, it's a huge gain in notoriety and a considerable jump in public knowledge flow. Aussies love david vs goliath battlers, particuarly with the lesser known atheletes)
Avid bball fans in Oz usually tend to keep tabs with what's going on, but until we have major success in the big dance (olympics) Joe Bloggs from Aus will continue to say Andrew Bogut who??
As for Lopez or Bogut, i'll take AB. AB, like M2M does alot of things that will inevitably not wind up in the box score. (side note: i'll stick with AB as long as he learns to ween out/eradicate the oft arising pube games. I can handle shots not falling, but defensive intensity is a must). Comparing paper stats one would favour Lopez, but from what i've seen on the tube i'll hedge Bogey. I just not sold of Lopez defensively yet.(offensively he's a big tick).

Doesn't help that 99.9% of the players there are worse than jerrod.

That's only possible if everyone in Australia was born without hands.

I have been mean to the Aussies in the past...
But that was uncalled for. You should probably get banned for that type of insult.

Re: Would you trade Bogues for Lopez
The best player Australia has ever produced is a white skinny guy named Andrew Gaze who was a scoring machine averaging 30ppg in our national competition for 10 yrs straight. He actually played college ball at Seton Hall and won a ring with the spurs with 2 mins courtime during the season. He had one major downfall, he was 6ft8 and could barely dunk of one foot and certainly not off two. In Australia he is classed as the MJ of our basketball league, but hell how can you not dunk off 2 feet if your 6ft8, oh yeah cause hes a white aussie.

I think it says a lot that none of them (Net's fans) would even consider trading Lopez for Bogut. Even the ones that are realistic and think Bogut is a good player think it's laughable.
I agree when you factor in contracts, age, upside, injuries, etc. This trade would be absurdly bad for the Nets and amazing for the Bucks.

Surefire way to have your favourite player ripped apart and insulted by opposing teams fans; make a thread on their forum about how much better he is than their star player.
