I don't know much about Stuart. Obviously he'll help now while our defensemen are all injured, but is he likely to crack the top 6 when everyone is healthy?

If he turns out to be an upgrade over any of the usual 6 defensemen then he will be a great addition considering how little he cost us. Another guy I would have liked to land (Lapointe) also ended up changing teams. I wish we could have got him as well.

Thanks for the links.

So, Holland can see Stuart as a #4 defensemen for us? I guess that means when everyone is healthy again, Stuart will be paired up with Kronwall, leaving Lilja, Chelios and Lebda to battle to fill the last two spots. Who do you think will be the one who gets left out?

I spoke to my girl about this and she said she thinks Chelly and Lilja will get the #5 and #6 spots, leaving Meech and Lebda as the reserves.

Andres Lilja will not be a 6th d-man I see it like this

1st pair: Lidstrom/Rafalski
2nd pair: Stuart/Kronwall
3rd pair: Lebda/Chelios (need his grit and hockey IQ)

These two are virtually set:

Lidstrom/Rafalski
Kronwall/Stuart

Assuming Chelly has one of the other spots nailed down, then Lebda or Lilja would be my guess as to who plays beside him. Lebda would be useful because of his speed, given that Chelly isn't exactly quick these days. However, Lilja is bigger, more physical and blocks shots. You can really make a solid argument for either Lebda or Lilja to play next to Chelly.

Chelly is there for his grit and for his IQ the guy dosn't make too many mistakes. I love his passion for the game. How many 45 year olds you know that are still playing? or better yet doing as good as Chelly? I can't belive we got him so cheap from Chicago.

I think he is my 2nd favourite Wing now after Lidstrom (playing that is)
