LA kiingsDraft Doughty & Tuebert trade Cammy

Post#1 » by Danny Darko » Sun Jun 22, 2008 7:17 pm

Good draft for the Kings. I was worried that in going for Doughty we would still lack defensive toughness, which we sorely need. Luckily we swung the trade moved up to 12, then back down to 13 in a move to get Colton Tuebert and a 3rd rounder. Colton should be big, nasty and exactly what we need, while we can see if Drew is NHL ready and if he, does in fact, compare to Ray Borque.

Cammy is gone, but I didn't like his inconsistent play or the way he was negotiating for a giant payday he's quite frankly has only shown glimpses of being worth. I would gladly trade him for a shutdown defender and we got a big nasty shadow who evidently lives to shutdown the other teams best guy. We will still have Anze, Frolov, O'sullivan, and Brown and plenty of players who can score and just had down seasons last year like Nagy.

also of not for the kings:

One of the day's more intriguing picks came in the sixth round, when the Kings chose Justin Azevedo, a center listed at 5-foot-7 or 5-8. Azevedo was available late, in part, because of his size and because, at age 20, he often played junior hockey against kids two or three years his junior.

But last season, Azevedo was named the most outstanding player in the Ontario Hockey League, a league that includes 2008 top pick Steven Stamkos. Acevedo had 124 points while playing for Kitchener.

In the second round we got a Russian defenseman in Vjateslav Voinov that was well thought of but scared off first round suitors on suspicion that he would not leave his Russian contract. Lombardi dissmissed this, saying they had done there homework and he will come over. Voinov is described as one of the main agitators in the draft- and in your face- never say die type who needs to work on first step explosion and needs experience.

Back to Drew Doughty-

Soooo awesome how badly he wanted to be a King since he was a kid and that he ended up here.

How many of this summer's first-round draft picks are going to make the jump directly to "The Show?" Who makes the biggest impact, offensively and defensively?
-- Brent Duff, Sydney, Nova Scotia

Depends who you ask. Canvass the picks, and you'll get 30 guys who think they're ready for the big time. Ask the general managers, and you might hear 10 names. Ask the coaches ... well, you get the point.

But that may change this season with Drew Doughty, the second overall pick and a good bet to earn a spot in Los Angeles. The Kings lost three defenders from last year's squad, and from here anyway, he looks like one of the top three options they have to fill the spots. The Thrashers also have jobs to offer, and No. 3 pick Zach Bogosian is being counted on to win one. And given Toronto's history of throwing young defensemen to the wolves, Luke Schenn (No. 5) might see some time on their blue line.

Yeah, I figure Doughty will get every chance to play
