What trades are hoped for ?

I have some real doable trades in mind.

My guess as of today (I reserve the right to change this multiple times  ):

PG: Rubio/Barea/Shved
SG: Afflalo/Shved/Budinger
SF: Kirilenko/Budinger
PF: Love/Cunningham/Johnson
C: Pekovic/Steimsma/Johnson

pf love/ cunningham
c pek/ steamer/ johnson

also whatever we get for jj/luke + memphis pick(if it isn't included in a dw trade)

I'm thinking Derrick/MEM 1st for Afflalo
Take a big at our pick, or trade pick with Luke for a big

PG: Rubio/Barea/Shved
SG: Mayo/Shved/Budinger
SF: Kirilenko/Budinger
PF: Love/Cunningham/Johnson
C: Gortat/Len/Johnson

I have a feeling SG is going to be addressed in FA. I'm not positive that Roy and Pek's salaries can cover Mayo, but Kahn has a way of finding cap space to bring in players. It would be much easier to bring in a guy like Gortat in trade with the Memphis pick than it would be to get a starting SG. Very surprised to see Pek on the lists so far. I think he's played his way into a max deal that the Wolves just can't match.

The pick and Williams for Afflalo?

:-? That would be extremely underwhelming.

See, I look at this and I wonder: Who else would I really want to get rid of? Maybe Steamer. Not a big fan. Hope Bayno and Sikma work intensively with Johnson and get him to a place where Adelman wants him to be. Right now, really, I'm just hoping Adelman comes back.

As far as who else we move, I'm probably one of the biggest Barea boosters here. Shved we keep, Budinger is almost essential to what we're trying to do. AK is by far the best player/financial value we're going to get. DC is awesome for what we're paying him, obv. KLove is back.

I sure as hell hope we keep Pek, and I bet we do.

I'll say this. I don't much care for rookies, but I like Oladipo. He's a gamer and he has good strength, size and speed. So how do we get there? The odd man out here, in my mind, is Shved--and we might toss in AK (the truth is, we could get more offense out of the 3). If we could build around something like this:

PG: Rubio/Barea/
SG: Afflalo/Oladipo/Budinger
SF: Budinger/(free agent)
PF: Love/Cunningham
C: Pekovic/Johnson

I would be a really happy Wolves fan.

I wasn't thinking any specific trade, tbh. I think Williams, Ridnour and possibly our pick will be traded in some combination of trades that net us Afflalo (or someone similar) plus other assets such as future picks or Euro prospects. In other words a starting SG and financial flexibility to re-sign Pek and Bud.

Afflalo hasn't looked all that good this season on his new team with a bigger role. His shooting fell off a cliff, only %30 on threes. I wouldn't give up Derrick for him anymore, though they can have Luke. :)

Hes not a number one option. Hes never going to be. But he wouldnt be asked to be one here either. He'd be the #3 option.

I think he'd be better on this team as a #3 option and he has decent size and defensive ability to play the SG (although his defense is overrated). He's not perfect and I threw his name out there as an example more than anything else. I think he is the type of player Kahn will target (i.e., mid-level third-option starting SG) and I think Orlando will be shopping him. Matthews would be another option but I think the probability of Portland dealing with Minnesota is slim.

If our top prospects are off the board we could offer our pick plus Roy's contract and/or Luke and I think Orlando would bite. Williams could then be moved for another player or future picks or we could keep him as Love's backup.

That's the thing, he's not a franchise player or a 2nd option. He's a guy that would fit as your 3rd-4th guy. I would expect him to put up similar numbers from his Nuggets stint here.

I would center something around Ridnour and the memphis pick for Afflalo, definitely not D Will or our #9 pick though.

I don't know why Orlando would do that, though.

If Noel, McLemore, Oladipo, Smart, Muhammad, and Porter are off the board when our pick is up, I see no reason to keep it. It's not like we would be giving up some superstar talent that is a perfect fit. Minnesota is in win now mode and Orlando is in rebuild mode.

No reason for the Magic to do business with us if we're not willing to move Williams or 9th pick. I'm not even sure they have a need for Williams with Harkless & Harris playing well. I assume the Magic would select Burke with their own pick (assuming Noel & McLemore are off the table). They would more than likely target a SG with our pick. If we're in a position to select Oladipo or Shabazz, then they'll be listening.

This draft is so hard to figure out, nobody really stands out much... Perhaps a PG will be available at #9 that Orlando loves, who knows, lol

Trade the pick, Williams & Ridnour for Amir Johnson and Ross.
Trade Ross and Roy for Afflalo.

Rubio/Barea
Afflalo/Shved
Kirilenko/Budinger
Love/Cunningham
Pekovic/A.Johnson

If Pekovic is not re-signed, start A.Johnson and keep Steamer.

Return to Minnesota Timberwolves
