Is Andrew wiggins signature spin move a travel?

Post#1 » by Watchlist » Mon Sep 15, 2014 10:33 am

Everytime I see someone do a spin move and take off of 2 feet, I think travel

If it was a travel, wouldn't the refs call it? Since they haven't called it, I think we can assume it isn't a travel.

Also, what's the point of the second video?

When you pick up your dribble while in motion you are allowed to take 2 steps which he does in that spin move. Not a travel.

This is the NBA we're talking about, he won't get called for travels.

After watching LeBron for years, I'd say traveling is in the eye of the beholder (based on the popularity of the player).

You have the ability to do a drop step one two off the bounce (as long as the dropstep picked up off the bounce). It is a shaky rule, and I have personally been screwed on that move and the hop-step plenty of times while playing, but as Lord Stannis said, the NBA officiating crew can't tell the difference of whether he picks up his pivot foot in time or not. I mean, they can, but they choose not to.

All in all though, the one I saw on the top video was absolutely a travel. He dropped his pivot foot, and landed on it again before the next foot.

Yes, I was gonna say in the video he definitely traveled. I'm guessing that's not a typical example of his 'signature spin' move. I remember seeing him do a summer league spin and dunk that looked legal.

I'm usually the first person to scream "TRAVEL!" but that move by Wiggins was NOT a travel. You're allowed to take two steps after the initial half gather step. Technically you're only allowed two steps, but since the first step is already in the air when the ball hits the ground, they don't count it - thus your feet are allowed to touch the ground immediately after the dribble like L-R-L, or R-L-R, or L-R simultaneously. After Wiggins final dribble, he went L (gather), R, then L shot.

I was always under the impression that if a player does a jump stop (also jumping off two feet) it counted as one step. Essentially if player lands with both feet at the same time it doesn't count as two unless he doesn't shoot or pass before moving both feet.

Not that impressive. He grabs the net with his left hand to pull himself up so he can get high enough to put his arm through. Had he grabbed the rim instead of the net everyone would've noticed right away.
