Shocking and sad news. Wish him the best in his recovery - not huge on him remaining as coach and executive through this. Wish he would focus on his treatment and getting better, can't imagine the stresses of coaching let alone the decision making responsibilities can be good for you through this. Get well Flip.

I'd imagine it would be pretty hard to get proper treatment and be a head coach and GM, a gig that is probably a 100 plus hour a week job.

I really don't like seeing the word "complications" come up in regards to his treatment. I'm worried.

I just spoke with a client of mine that's very close with Flip's family. They are doing fine, his prognosis hasn't changed. Flip had planned on putting Mitchell in charge initially, just hadn't mentioned it to the press. I think he was making sure he had someone to cover for Mitchell before going public with the move.

That's good to hear. But why is he in the hospital? A cancer patient in the hospital is serious business, especially when he's not currently taking chemo. Usually it's infections/neutropenic fever which can get life-threatening in a hurry.

My dad had the same exact cancer. I was shocked when I originally heard that Flip was going to continue in his day to day duties while fighting the cancer. Having seen my dad battle, it's just not possible. During the Chemo, you have good days and bad. You can lose your hair, lose a lot of weight, develop infections, fever, and severe nausea. My dad beat it but he went through all those different obstacles throughout the process which was for the better part of a year. He got the bone marrow transplant and has been in remission for almost 2 years. I have no doubt Flip can beat it too, but I'm glad he gave up all of his duties to focus on that

It's not difficult to figure out why he's in there, beyond chemo side effects, which can be legion.

A stem cell transplant is another possibility. A pretty bad one, it would mean that the ABVD (chemo) didn't work.

Any way, this is pretty serious. Pulling for Flip really hard. He's a great person and is the right guy for all his jobs imo.
