I think Jaden lost decent amount of money due to that punching the wall incident...if he played in playoffs and performed decently, I think he would have gotten little bit more money

Jaden out for GAME 1, so the calf injury wasn’t just negotiation security.

Talk to the hand, don't pick a fight with the wall.

Consider Wiggins at 24M, Green at 22, Brooks at 20m and Reaves at 13M. I was thinking it was going to be 20M tops. So, I don't think he would gotten more unless he has a great year and hit restricted free agency next summer.

Would you really fault a guy for sitting out a meaningless pre-season game to avoid any possible injuries when he knew a contract for $136 million dollars was imminent?

In these dark days of contract negotiation and trade demand shenanigans can you really say of course it wasn't. ............

Kinda yes, because it shows he cares more about the money than what he gives to the team.

The 190m is based on a 4.4% increase. I think the second apron is going to be closer to 200m once we have the official cap. That should give us an extra 10 mil which should be enough to sign Conley. Ant making all NBA does cause some problems. If he is going to make all NBA, let it be 1st or 2nd team. It does really suck if he makes 3rd team.

A 10% increase vs 4.4% also means KAT and ANT make about 5 million more.
So that doesn't mean an extra 10 million.

Kudos to Dane for laying that out for fans, but I think he's being a bit optimistic.
He's right though that bringing Conley back for 10 million would acutally cost 40-50 million when luxury tax is taken into account.

True, we won't have 10 mil due to max contracts. My last calc was around 8 mil, so still enough for a 4 year Conley extension unless he wants to retire instead. As I said before, may lose Brown or Milton with it. But we still have most of the core players and Miller/Minott will get playing time. A better conversation to have when the season is over unless we make a Borgdon mid-season trade. Given how bad Scoot looks in the first game, POR may throw him in the trade too :D

Good post. I also wanted to point out to others that this incremental cost was what the builders of the last CBA thought would make the luxury tax so effective, as they tried to discourage additional spending over the lux. They believed adding Conley for $10 mil would make sense to teams under the lux threshold, who would get $10 mil of production, but lux teams would stay away because they wouldn’t want to pay $40 mil for $10 mil in production.

They miscalculated on two fronts. First was the willingness of a few owners to ignore the financials, because they simply wanted a better team. If you are willing to pay $40, the team is $10 mil better in production. The other was that this spending level would set a new bar if the owner wanted to have a competitive team. If one owner pays $140 for $140 mil of production, and another pays $240 for $180 mil of production, the latter still has the better team and a better chance at winning rings. The last CBA writers thought owners would emphasize making money, but many NBA owners get their millions in their other businesses, and owning an NBA team is a vanity play, and losing money on a winning team is an acceptable goal.

Because the latter is true, you can already see several teams positioning themselves to be second apron teams, ignoring some fairly severe financial penalties in the hope of being a hero for bringing an NBA Championship to their home city.

Owners like to play fantasy basketball too. Except they have enough money to make their fantasy comes true. :D

So guys, you are saying that after Gobert trade, and Towns, Edwards, Reid and McDaniels extensions MIN cant afford Conley, Anderson? And the most realistic way to build a balanced roster is via trade? Who knew...

I'm half joking, but my serious point is that fans should be enjoying watching the games. We have no influence over salary cap why fret over it. Yes I know this is real GM so we debate all that sheet.
