Foye to be examined again today 1-7

Post#1 » by Cy32 » Mon Jan 7, 2008 2:23 pm

Foye said if he's cleared to play, he's not sure how long he will need to get in game shape. A week of practice might be the minimum, but it could be longer.

Randy Foye's bone scan on his knee showed marked improvement on Monday, meaning that the Wolves guard can ramp up practice activities including sprinting, shooting, jumping and cutting.

"They showed us the results of the last test four weeks ago and the test (Monday), and you can clearly see that it's healed up," said Foye. "They just said work your way back in slowly but surely, and gave me the go ahead to start doing dummy stuff today with the team."

"(The doctors and training staff) want to look at him for a week here, probably, (with) non-contact stuff," said head coach Randy Wittman. "Running, shooting, jumping, sprinting, all that stuff to see if there is any reaction or pain."

I'm actually quite annoyed they didn't give a return date.

That article is so ambiguous that this is the conclusion I am getting as well. It is driving me nuts how noncommital Wittman is. What is dummy stuff?

Dummy stuff is: Running, sprinting, shooting, basically all the non-contact drills. They are going to re-check his knee status in a week, and if there is no pain or or stress, he is cleared. So this is basically good news because he gets to do drills he wasn't able to do at a MAX level, he was doing it around a lower level.

So we are probably looking at at least another 2 weeks minimum for his return.... :(

This is good news! Yeah, we still need to see how the knee holds up at the Max Level as Great RC pointed out, but it's still positive.

I'm assuming he'll start practicing with the team and they'll evaluate over the course of the week how the knee reacts. If it goes well, I could see him getting limited minutes as soon as next week. That might be overly optimistic though.

Progress is key with this injury. I am looking forward for Foye as are the rest of you. Lets hope that with the time this has taken there is not long term issues.

Update: Foye (knee) was cleared for a limited return to practice. He won't participate in contact drills and scrimmages for at least another week, but can participate in all other activities, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

Recommendation: It sounds like he's at least two weeks away from returning to a game as a result. Doctors will check the stress reaction in his knee in a week to see if he can return to full practice. The T-Wolves will take extra caution with his return since there is no reason to rush him.
